Mark Stoops expected to coach ACC Championship Game

Stay connected for news and updates

According to multiple Kentucky news reports, Florida State defensive coordinator will hold his first press conference as head coach of the Kentucky Wildcats on Sunday, after Saturday's ACC Title Game, in which the Seminoles will face Georgia Tech.

That, paired with Stoops' attendance at Florida State's practice today, strongly suggests that Stoops will coach Florida State's defense in the ACC Championship.

Florida State fans, of course, will immediately scream "Richt'd," a reference to the awful job done by Florida State offensive coordinator Mark Richt in the 2000 Orange Bowl/National Championship loss to Oklahoma, after he had already accepted and prepared to become Georgia's head coach.

Of course, while Georgia Tech's is extremely difficult to prepare for, it is not 2000 Oklahoma. Still, if Florida State's defense turns in a sub-par defense, fans will blame the timing of Stoops' new position. And they might be correct.

It's hard to see Stoops coaching the bowl game, but there has been no announcement on the matter.
