This is a crazy time right now for FSU football; we have coaches leaving in a mass exodus (something we’ve never been used to under Bowden). It’s funny when you listen to people talk about Jimbo, they always seem to bring up that he’s a control freak and hard person to work for and a raven lunatic that we see on the sidelines. So I wanted to really examine these coaching moves, what does it mean, and what does it say about our program.
Mark Stoops came to know surprise to anyone that he was moving on from Florida State. Although I do believe it was time for stoops to move on. He built a good defense but never turn it into an elite defense IMO. Gran moving on is a surprise too many but not a surprise to me at all, and if Craig possibly moving on also come to a surprise to most but heard about since the beginning of the season and I’ve stated many time on this site including this that I received from a source:
Certain person around the program has said there would huge shake up on the offense side of the team; because of certain financial limitations of FSU. Craig name is very hot right now in several big time SEC Programs. This was a big year for Jimbo to get the program to next level because he knew staff would poach. Some even believed that he would not return certain members of the staff because of some of their work habits. Craig from all accounts is a hard worker and one Jimbo favorites but understands his potential of growth.
I do believe Jimbo did plan on these moves and probably told some of these guys on the staff to put their name out there to see what type of jobs and money they could receive from other schools. Jimbo has a real need to add more true coaches on this staff not just glorified recruiters. When Jimbo took over for Bowden there was real need for positive guys with energy and a real ability to build, connect and commit to the players and he also needed to infuse tons of talent. Now that Jimbo and that staff has done that maybe it’s time to recondition his staff to a complete staff not just recruiters or nice guys but a better mixture of both on the defensive and offensive side of the ball. Jimbo can’t do it all on the offensive side of the ball and maybe he’s ready to hire a true QB coach or a true O coordinator.
I do believed these next hires will give us a real insight on Jimbo plans for the program, he has built the program back up but he need coaches that can take the program to the next level and him also. If Jimbo wants be Head Coach, acting AD, Face of the program, and lead recruiter; then he needs true coaches to delegate to or at least a better mixture of both coach and recruiter. The big question is can FSU afford the best of both worlds?
