I will stress this is a rumor but I like it. ESPN Radio in Austin has reported the same thing, Football sites have been ablaze with rumors for the past year including those of honus. Recently President Eric Barron made a comment directed to him, saying "the Dude" was just throwing stories out there. It is interesting he was aware enough of this gentleman to actually address the situation.
Perhaps he felt the need to point out publicly that he was aware of the changes taking place in college football and to emphasize that he would guard the interests of FSU in the matter.
Another interesting comment by Barron was "there will be changes."
Barron seems to understand that people want some answers. He felt a need to state the interests of Florida State were primary. I think Barron realized he made a mistake with his initial email and it made him appear uninformed about the task ahead. There is a serious realignment taking place in college football with millions of dollars at stake. For him to simply say the ACC is strong we have no intentions of leaving seemed pretty inadequate to many. The ACC is not strong and it is bleeding FSU dry.
We have a big power play now ongoing between FOX which controls 51% of the BTN and is involved with the Big 12. ESPN controls the ACC market. The poor contract is causing real concern among many, I am sure ESPN would simply like this issue to go away.
Maryland is on record as saying the contract is worse than people are led to believe. It is hard to say for sure as the ACC does not even make the contract public. We will know however if the lawsuit against Maryland proceeds in the courts.
We know FOX has been buying up all of the third tier rights they can among Big 12 colleges. If they move into the south east with several teams such as FSU, Clemson, Miami and Georgia Tech/NCSU, it truly solidifies itself as a power conference and it appears FOX is ready to open the checkbook.
