THE Real Problem With FSU and How to Fix It

I’ve watched the Florida State ,Florida Gators game about three times only to come to the conclusion that if those two teams played each other ten times FSU would’ve lost ten times; But instead of blaming the failures of this team, on the obvious parties Jimbo, Mark Stoops, and EJ Manuel. I wanted to look at this at in a very different aspect. The Florida game I think in particular sums up our season as whole, when you really look at it. I remember last year looking at Florida games watching Will Muschamp look like he was in over his head as a first time head coach, constantly yelling and being upset about the mental make-up of his team, in very much the same place in which Jimbo was and is currently. So why is Muschamp process at Florida so far ahead of Jimbo’s process? Both came from the Saban, both have been a part of big time programs under other success head coaches, both have cut their teeth in the physical demanding SEC. So why is FSU behind Florida even though Jimbo has been a part of FSU for five years and a year head start on Muschamp as it pertains to head coaching? The answer is simple Jeremy Foley.

The infrastructure that Jeremy Foley provides for Florida is what beat us that weekend and what has us questioning where our program is. I do believe Jimbo is still the guy but I wonder how much pressure he shoulders when it comes to hiring the right the coaches and holding the coaches accountable. Florida State football program begins and ends with JImbo right now; who does jimbo bounce ideas off of? Muschamp has Foley someone he knows will always have the small things taken care of and all he has to worry about is coach and teaching football. If a position coach isn’t getting the job done( even if he has a guaranteed contract) Foley & Muschamp get rid of them and finds someone better. Hence getting rid Aubrey Hill, Charlie Weis, Frank Verducci and Mickey Marotti. They go and hire Tim Davis one of the best Oline coaches, Brent Pease as O coordinator, and now Joker Phillips as wide receiver coach. With that type of pressure on your assistants to do their job, it creates a culture of urgency with coaches and it’s certainly pass down to the players which gives us what we saw that fateful Saturday in November. There was a change in Muschamp from year one to year two. I have to believe Foley (who has watch two coaches win three National Championship) has help Muschamp mature as a coach and program manager. What must change at Florida State to get us at the level of LSU, Florida, Alabama, and Georgia?

Well first I believe it’s time to bring Bobby Bowden back, certainly not as a head coach but in some shape of form to at least help heal the fan base. Doesn’t have to be on the sideline but he should be around the program he built. They way Mickey comes around the program from time to time; I do believe bobby should be reached out to; and hopefully back Jimbo and help support the process that’s in place. That something Jimbo and the power players at FSU need to do. Then go and hire a real AD that Jimbo respects and trust. That way he doesn’t have to self-evaluate his self or his program by his self. Thiers a need for true AD, that Jimbo respects enough accept his criticism bounce ideas off of. FSU has to get its House in order to compete with the SEC powers or reach the level of those teams in the 90s. What about Jimbo what does he need to do?

I think Jimbo is a great offensive mind and I do believe in his ability to coach but changes are necessary. JImbo has had Coley on his staff for three years now he should allow him to call the offensive plays, grooming assistants to have success is a big part of being a successful football coach see Belicheck , Nick Saban and Bill Parcells. Then theirs know need to hire glorified recruiters anymore, this program should be at the level that the coaches should be both now; recruiters and hardworking teachers of football. I know that Jimbo believes that the QB position must be the end all of his teams, but to constantly win championships he must shift in philosophy , meaning if you’re going recruit big lineman then allow them to control games and force their will on opponents. I’m tired of hearing there putting too many in the box stuff. Florida did it to us with guys in the box and Bama does it to everyone. FSU games shouldn’t hinge on the ability or lack of ability at QB position. Harbaugh and Saban both believe in this; but if you do have a QB who can put it all together then you give him more responsibility hence Harbaugh and Luck. Jimbo needs to identify what he wants to be on offense and dictate the terms in games even to a fault; bigger stronger faster go and be that. If a QB is always going to be the focus on this team then we need a true QB teacher. EJ Manuel has shown he hasn’t been truly develop, his footwork is terrible hence the reason we see his throws to high or go straight into the dirt and his inability to truly deal with a blitz shows lack development . EJ and Jimbo had three years to get footwork right helping him identify blitzes better. This shows that Jimbo needs delegate this responsibility to someone else who can take the time to teach that position where it can properly developed. Jimbo had a lot transition going on when he took head coach responsibility to truly give EJ the tutoring he really needed IMO.

Give me thoughts and critism which I’m sure will come lol.
