I know kids have the right to change their mind...

but there sure seems to be shenanigans with the way Fowler played this one. If he was undecided, let the coaches know, but he kept reassuring everyone that he was FSU all the way.

What really sucks is many here believe Williams would have been open to FSU had he not believe he was a back up plan.

I don’t wish Fowler to get injured, but I wouldn’t be upset if his career sucks… karma can be a bitch.

Thanks for the lesson Guru Geoff...

I don’t mess with karma hence the way I worded my statements with “wouldn’t be” and “can be”.

Consider my response more of a soapbox moment

because people don’t understand the concept of karma and I was addressing the people who will hate the kid for his decision. You were reasonable but the wording is more in line with the idea that karma is a vindictive force. Again, consider that a clarfication, soapbox moment.

Dante Fowler: "I always hated Florida, and I always told myself I would never go to Florida and now I’m about to be playing for them."

Think he just got scared of the depth FSU has. He saw the scrubs that UF was bringing in this year at the position and made a decision. Gotta think its been playing in his mind for a long time though.

When did he make that comment? LOL Just wow.

We are signing a great class, he is a great talent tho and best of luck to him.

I agree 100%

Fowler chose UF because he was scared of competition, and Tracy Howard chose UM to be the big fish in a small pond. Playing time swung both

by MarchantWarchant on Feb 1, 2012 6:27 PM EST up reply actions

Fowler has to compete with Ronald Powell for starters playing time at the BUCK. Other than that, he isn’t starting.

by FlaGators on Feb 1, 2012 7:43 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, Powell looked dominant for the first 3/4 of the season at the Buck...wait...

Dude came on a bit toward the end of the season, but by and large has not been the impact player that was expected. I see Fowler getting more PT in his first two years in G-ville than he would have in Tally.

Disagree?

by lawdy15 on Feb 1, 2012 9:52 PM EST up reply actions

Powell had a nice season overall. I’m in the process of doing a season recaps of positions and the BUCK is coming up on Friday, so all I’ve done is watch video after video, after video. But it seems like he was either making an impact or not at all. But he starting figuring things out really well at the end. After the coaches called him out of course.

But yeah, I think Fowler will get some PT mostly because we need depth everywhere. Especially those positions at the lines or those near the lines (LB and TE). So there is spaces, but Powell I believe, has cemented himself as the starter at BUCK.

by FlaGators on Feb 1, 2012 10:42 PM EST up reply actions

was thinking the same thing

It seems to me this kid is afraid of competition to me this shows that he knew he wasn’t as good as MEJ or chris casher and saw that hamilton wasn’t going to UF and saw an opening

by TheRenegade29 on Feb 1, 2012 6:44 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

I'm not as mad as i thought i was going to be..

More PT for MEJ and Casher. He did go about this the wrong way though. Wish him luck because the student section is going to give him hell next year in Doak.

I'll say what I said a couple of months/weeks ago:

Why should we take a flier on a guy character issues, who plays games and creates drama when he could use that spot that to get someone who really wants to be here and will work his butt off to prove it.

I can’t knock him though for doing what is best for him but he is worthy of scorn for the way he handled the entire situation. Maybe he can room with Elam next year and they can “play games”and create drama with one another.

On the brightside, we have a spot for another big time stud edge rusher and we will be better able to stagger our depth at DE.

by JNole on Feb 1, 2012 4:53 PM EST reply actions

The only thing that irks me about this is that I think it cost us Leonard Williams

A lot of people saw this coming, should have brought on Williams if it was a real possibility earlier.

On ESPN, Butch Davis said when a kid asks about the depth cart, that is a major red flag

He said the best players he had didn’t care about the depth chart and actually saw good players on their team as a challenge to step up.

I think we are okay with the guys we got. Good luck in Hogtown Dante.

Hogtown will be Dante's Inferno....

IMO it is a blessing that we didn’t land this kid. After all of the questionable press he got indicating character issues, we are probably better off without his presence in our team’s locker room. Still, hate to wish a kid anything but success; so good luck to him.

We should be very happy with what we have coming in. That’ll be my focus, anyway…..

by FSULOCO on Feb 1, 2012 6:02 PM EST up reply actions

I agree, I think we landed some quality character guys

Look at Goldman and Winston’s interviews yesterday and they were both gracious and determined. Good kids.

If Dante Fowler Jr.

is the biggest thing we have to complain about this year then we should have a great year. Everyday is a good day to be NOLE but today it seems to be a little better.

I've been consistent on this kid- meh, either way.

Physically, a great athlete with tons of potential, but seems very immature.

If he matures, will be a great one…but kids like this could also flake on your and never pan out.

I’d say out of Casher, Edwards, and Dante…the one with the highest chance of being a bust (outside of fluke injury) is Dante.

by lawdy15 on Feb 1, 2012 9:54 PM EST up reply actions

so did Fowler wuss out due to Edwards and Casher...

…or having to go against Glauser, Watson, Hart etc…

Not one is surprised. He should have just had the balls to decommit early on

And not play games. He is scared competition. He has talent. But hes now the enemy. And when we are whooping the Gate’s. I hope we run right through him. MEJ and Casher will happily point up at the scoreboard and when they are entering the NFL in a few years and Fowler is hoping to make that 5th round. He can think that he would have been better if he was pushed harder and really wanted it. Don’t hope for injury. Don’t care about his success. But I hope he has a long 4 years losing to us each year and watching our defense dominate the country.

by BossNole on Feb 2, 2012 8:25 AM EST up reply actions

The timing and handling of this was what made it egregious, but the actual flip didn't surprise anyone.

Don’t forget, this kid had disrespected high school coaches, disrespected and angered his father, disrespect and lied to both sets of coaches.

That’s a pretty staggering pattern of disrespecting and lying to figures of authority.

I am wondering if UF knew they weren't going to get Leonard Williams

and made a really strong push with Fowler. If so, it was a smart move by them. On that note, I would rather go up against Fowler for the next 3-4 years than Williams.

by BossNole on Feb 2, 2012 8:25 AM EST reply actions

I was wondering

if UF’s coaching staff specifically told Fowler to wait until NSD if he was going to flip. That way it costs us two DEs instead of one. I doubt they would have asked him to do all the other stuff, but just telling him to maintain the status quo until the last minute seems plausible.

by BobLoblaw113 on Feb 2, 2012 4:29 PM EST up reply actions

It is what it is

He didn’t handle it well. May or may not have cost us Williams. Being bitter and spiteful will do us nothing.

anyone have a vid link to Fowlers actual switch?

Id like to see his face when he did it. I read somewhere here that he looked uncomfortable.
