I prefer elite ankles no longer be a need

Elite ankles not only did not help our certain OL recruit play center..

So Elite ankles is a bad thing. Not to mention after over a year of it. I dont ever want to hear that term again lol. Elite player but not ankles is what I want to hear.

Elite ankles horse is dead, Beaten so many times it died again and all the other horses are dead 5 times over as well lol

I only want to hear about elite ankles

If referring to a stripper named “Destiny” Or “Sparkles”. And even then if the ankles the rest better be good as well. Those ankles may make a worthwhile difference

Thoughts on signing a top 5 class this year with the talent showing in Florida?

Looks like we will be taking a large class and I just can’t see this coaching staff reaching for many projects.

Are we talking a 5 star and (16) 4 stars with 4-5 solid 3 stars type of class?

I don't agree with you about finding a man that is not looking, 0:34, and 0:56 prove you wrong.

Some of the others were prety close, and those that were not, well they will be looking for him next time wont they.
Let’s also remember they are highlights, I am quite sure he has made many more boring blocks. The fact that a good third of his highlights are blocks, makes me like the way he plays, and thinks about the game.
My opinion doesn’t mean much, but he is at the top of my WR want list.

Definite take.

Good size/frame, appears to have good strength. Sh!tty technique in pretty much every way you can interpret that (hands/feet/hips/plays too high), but he FINISHES, and that’s what I look for 1st in a H.S. OL. Technique can be taught if you have the frame (he does) & athleticism (he does). Disposition cannot be taught…he has it.
Definitely a Guard.

This should mean stiffer competition among Florida’s elite wide receiver prospects. I can only imagine the instate battles we will see this year for Coley, Cunningham, & Fullwood.

Would take

Cunningham out of those top three as he’s probably the surest thing (Not sold on Coley nipping his attitude issues in the bud). Lots of “depth” in Florida at the WR position in 2013 but I’ve been disappointed in the Jr film thats come out. Seems like a lot of these kids lack a tremendous amount of upside. Like the Juwaan WIlliams offer and I hope we can get him this summer when he decides. At this point would take two in-state kids and two OOS kids at WR if indeed 4 are goiing to be taken. UF can have Williams and Davis (Especially Davis) especially as long as Aubrey Hill is at UF to coach them

But I think this was a case of a kid wanting to stay local. Plus at UF he wouldve had a lot of expectations (gator fans I talked to thought he was a "lock’ to be the next Harvin…..lol), at Maryland hes the biggest name recruit they’ve landed in quite a while.

As I recall, we brought back for from the National Finals team and replaced the only graduate with someone who was much better. Ron king broke his ankle so it can’t all be put on Clyde, but it was common knowledge that he ruined us. Postscript. He was still drafted and played for the Celtics under Auerbach until, one game, Clyde told RA himself that he was no scrub and wasn’t going out on the floor to do mop up. I wanted him (the guy who committed to us for 14 months) to come. If he had stuck with us he would have been that guy—not the guy who flipped at the last minute to UF.

Him being that other guy, I suspect we dodged a bullet.

Though I admit, he could work out great for UF.

Not trade...but take their OL for sure.

We obviously could’ve used Fowler or Bullard since we’re losing three next year. Kent would’ve definitely been a take. There’s six we could’ve used this year. Other kids would be FSU quality in a year of need. Don’t forget UF isnt UM. They’ll recruit well and theyll be back. Too much $ and commitment to pigskin not to.

I’m not saying they didn’t bring in FSU quality kids. But in the same positions, I like our haul a lot better, and I like our overall class better even with less kids.

Obviously UF will always bring in good classes, but this year was a definite win for us. Its not much to go on, but Jimbo’s staff if the winner so far during his tenure in this state.

From what I heard the coach may have been an issue in this

I believe the coach was trying to make him play DT, when his future was DE, And this is after the coach used him i another position, maybe RB where he should not have been used and he got hurt. There was more to this if I remember.

Bottom line is. Rather him be a Nole. But not a huge loss. He has great potential and people saying glad we didnt get him as he could be a cancer dont realize if that happened h would simply get cut and wait a year and transfer, or shut up and play against good competition for the job and he could have been a star or a great great second string. Not losing sleep over him being gone, But would rather him have not been a Gaytor, even if I cant stand him now because of how it went down. He can still be a great player. has the ceiling. Just hope he doesnt realize it nearly what he could have if he was not scared of competition and working for a spot.

We took 7 Frosh OL and 1 left.

I’d like to not wait until we “need” OL to take them. Would definitely take a couple of UF’s OL. to recap our totals for HS OL it was
2010 – 1 Dan Foose
2011 – 7 then Prestwood left making 6
2012 – 0

If we had taken a couple this year maybe some of out D linemen could stay at D line

by law74 on Feb 11, 2012 7:12 PM EST up reply actions

There are nuances to flops, especially in basketball.

The root genetic precursor to the flop is the flail. Then there came, in order, the…
flail and shout,
the head shock,
the half-stagger,
two-step stagger,
two-step-stagger with shout,
butt flop with slide,
tower of pisa flop,
full pisa with shout and flail,
full pisa with shout, flail, and terminating crotch grab.

Think of these as part of a thinking player’s repertoire. (And yes, IMO I was good at several of the above in my industrial league days. Not an expert, but “accomplished.” Should I be ashamed?) :-)

is who would you drop from our recruiting class and replace with a UF signee? We have to assume we signed all we could take meaning if anyone else had asked to sign with us, we would have rejected him. Now, with that as a backdrop, and considering that we signed players based upon our needs, which player did we sign at a specific position that we would have preferred a Gator signee?

Question regarding Coaching Turnover.

Should someone like Stoops or Elliot leave our staff, how much will that change commitments that they recruited? Will those recruits follow them? Or do we have guys go at them together, i.e. will Elliot and Craig recruit the same guy so if one leaves we still have contact and a preexisting relationship. It seems like in the next couple of years we will have to think about this as Stoops, Elliot, Craig, etc become candidates for other positions.

Greatness courts failure.

by PalmAireNole on Feb 13, 2012 2:27 PM EST reply actions

Recruiting is a team effort at most schools

The way Fisher describes it coaches are assigned areas and scan that area to find players of interest. Those players are then vetted by 2 other staff members. The player will actually be in contact with at least two coaches through phone calls, on campus and in home visits. Some recruits might develop a particular affinity for a certain coach (Goldman and Jernigan with Haggins for example) but if that coach leaves it isn’t like the recruit does not have a pre-existing relationship with another coach on the staff. It’s hard to say whether or not a player will look at other schools if a coach leaves but that’s Fisher’s strategy for dealing with staff turnover.

I think you might have a few from time to time (especially ex-players or parents of recruits) but for the most part they stay away from fan forums.

Sorry if the responses rubbed you the wrong way, but please don’t ever feel like you don’t have a voice here. We love to joke around and in the off-season you may see it ramped up a bit more.

Baldwin county is as close to Tallahassee as it is to Tuscaloosa

Given Coach Craig’s history, being from that area, IMO we have a solid shot at anyone in southern Alabama. I don’t like the “steal” terminology, because Alabama never necessarily “locked down” the state. People just don’t venture into it often. “There ain’t a wall that says FSU can’t come in”

by jmnpb996 on Feb 15, 2012 8:43 AM EST up reply actions

I love the idea of "stealing" any recruit from any

other state. We are very tribal animals and tend to think of our city, state, country, high school, religion, university, family, or circle of friends as our “people” or “pack”. My experience has shown that if you grew up in Alabama and played football, then it was almost a sacrilege to go to a school other than Bama or Auburn if either of those two schools wanted you. May be truer there than in any other state.
On those occasions that we can “steal” a kid from the very tight Bama “tribe”, I feel the Noles will Roll the Tide and Rock the War Eagle.

We need to have the kind of season that will make every kid interested in us.

An ACC Championship, another State Championship, the #1 Defense in the land, and a BCS Bowl Win. If we could do these things, it would definitely help our cause, and for sure kids would stand up to take notice that we are really back.
To do all of these things is one tall order, but none of them are unattainable. We have as much talent as any team in the NCAA, and we have experience this year also. We just need a little luck, to stay healthy, the ACC Refs to call good games, and we are good to go.

Thats what most say about Harris

but he’s 197 pounds so he can just grow into a big safety. I wouldn’t hold out for either one at this point. UF absolutely owns Armwood (McQuay’s HS)

McMillian (according to insiders)

never was an FSU lean and this was stated prior to his commit to UF. It was always understood that it would be a competition for his services. McQuay has said that Florida was his favorite but that was during the season. I suppose anything is possible but the staff would need to actually have some meaningful dialogue with the kid and get him on campus, which will likely be a chore

So I know it is really early

But based off of the early rankings it seems like we aren’t in the mix for some of the big names like we were last year. Last year we had ME Jr early, Winston, and then Goldman late. Don’t forget we HAD Fowler early… bastard.

I thought we were in it for Levenberry but it seems like that ship is sinking. Same goes for Tunsil, but it now looks like SEC for him. I know Knedmiche has us listed but he seems like a reach at this point.

Like I said it is really early but I would still like to see us more involved with the Elite prospects early on and that doesn’t seem to be the case. Am I right or am I forgetting a few?

by aznole85 on Feb 16, 2012 1:08 PM EST reply actions

you kind of answered your own question

Its still early with a ton of kids uncommitted. However, Golson is an elite prospect in a position of need. But i think we are sitting pretty at most positions. Look at the RB position for instance, we will take 2-3 of them and we are positioned well for several top kids.. Green, Bryant, Turman, woodley, ford, etc.
As far as Tunsil goes, Jernigan was thought to be a SEC/UF lock. Considering the UF coaching issues(just signed a OL coach…from Minnesota)and the fact UF signed Humphries and Dunker last year, added to our recent success of beating UF, I think we still have a decent shot at Tunsil.

by fsudude on Feb 16, 2012 1:49 PM EST up reply actions

I'm not close to worried.

This time last year FSU had 6? commitments (one a kicker). One three star and four four stars (depending on where you rank Fowler and Casher).

You have to realize there’s variance and each situation is unique. FSU was extremely lucky to have MEjr’s dad be a FSU grad. Casher being a FSU fan from Alabama was even more shocking to me.

Summer is when I think a lot of stuff figures itself out, and you start to notice who’s positioning themselves for a top 10 ranking. If you ask me today, FSU will once again finish top 5, but not willing to bet top 3. Class size, talent in the state and a National Championship berth will propel that. However, Florida and Miami are recruiting well, FSU’s season wasn’t phenomenal, and FSU doesn’t have those quick ties to the early five stars it did last year (Casher, Winston, Edwards). So I’d bet in the 3-6 range for FSU’s finish.

Eddie Goldman, Ronald Darby, Colin Blake, Reggie Northrup please

I think we are going to have a high class ranking mainly due to class size but I think we will have more quality than Miami’s class from last year. Just wondering who will be headliners will be when it is all said and done.

Shelton and Senat recieved their 4 *s. IMO Bain is still raw but eventually should earn a fourth star with some camps and a strong senior year showing more technique rather than being just a freakish GAM.

Good size, long frame, very elusive for a guy his size in the open field. I don’t think he would be a sleeper in any other year considering how early it is in the recruiting game. This year though with everything going so fast he is a definite sleeper. Anyone have any numbers on this guy?

Heard that FSU offered CB Noel Ellis from Karr, here in New Orleans.

He was my brother’s teammate the last 3 years. Initially, I was somewhat surprised by the offer. Karr is a heavy off coverage/cover 3 zone team, and he plays his zones really well. I’ve rarely seen him get beat or let the WR get behind him. When WRs get behind him, he’s usually baiting the QB, and he ends up breaking on the ball (and often intercepting it). He made two athletically impressive interceptions this season that I can recall from the top of my head. One against O. Perry Walker high school (rival school), which he used a trail technique to bait the QB (signed with Tulane) to throwing to the WR in the corner of the end zone, and he skied up and snatched it, which sealed the win for Karr. The second was in the state championship game, in which he made an interception on a ball that I thought sure was going to go over his head.

Has a good bloodline, as his dad played for Tulane back in the day. He’ll be a 3rd year starter this upcoming season. Has progressed each year. The main things I don’t like about him is his slender build (which obviously doesn’t concern FSU with Waisome on board and Shelton verbally committed) and he has a tendency to come up soft against the run/quick pass game. He comes up hard every now and then, which makes me think “why don’t you do that all the time?” Not sure what he thinks about the program at this point; however, if FSU is serious about the kid down the road and the feelings are mutual, I’m sure it wouldn’t be too hard to set up an interview with Tomahawknation because he’s cool with my brother and I went to school with Karr’s DB coach.

Sounds like it huh? lol. But no, Deion specialized in man coverage, Karr plays zone pretty much the whole game. I heard he did pretty well at one of the LSU camps, but I want to see him play man coverage against top competition with my own eyes because I’ve rarely (if ever) seen him do it. I’m still somewhat surprised he got an FSU offer. When I see him play, “FSU” wasn’t the type of school that came to mind. I’m happy for the kid though.

IMO will not stick.

As FSuni describes below, they’ll need to bring in more talent, and it’ll need to be relative to the rest of the SEC, not Wake Forest and UConn.

I am easily the biggest Vandy homer on TN, and will argue in their favor to a fault, but I just do not see Vandy being able to sell enough to keep him there.

If they DO have success (Which I’m guessing McCary thinks they will), then obviously Franklin probably won’t be there. That’s a huge risk at a school like Vandy, whose funds are limited. They could very easily strike out and hire a guy who could Crowton McCrary into forgottenville.

I get that kids value academics, which is very, very refreshing, but this is one commitment that I don’t see sticking. Once he makes visits and sees the talent disparity, I expect him to commit to a program that has more resources to help him develop.

So which positions are the best (deep & talented) in the 2013 cycle?

seems to me 2013 is a good cycle for WR, LB, OL, DB & DL. There are some elite QBs but not many good ones; RB seems to lack a good number of elite guys but there are many very good ones.

by TLHWG on Feb 17, 2012 9:23 AM EST reply actions

RB is pretty good this year in FL (Bryant, Green, Turman, Woodley, Jamari Smith (way underrated), Henry, Chestnut, Talyor...etc..)

WR is loaded (Stevens, Coley, Cunningham) , LB is solid (Thomas is awesome) , OL is okay and maybe quality 3* and 4* plus Tunsil. DT (other than our two commits) is not to great. QB’s is weak (Cord S is good). CB and S is loaded (long list, maybe listed above)

They had friday night lights if i'm not mistaken

I had no doubt that Florida would get theirs. I’m sure we will get ours too, I’m not concerned about recruiting even though I don’t think we will have as great of a year as the last two. I’m more worried about what will happen to recruiting if the football season doesn’t pan out. If we lose 3 to 4 games and don’t even make it to the ACC championship….. then we have some BIG problems. There is soo much talent out there this year that i’m not worried.

I do think that we are trying to recruit more nationally. I’d personally like to see us stick instate a little bit more but last year we got some very good players from out of state. Though I think that most players in the state of Florida prefer UF, which is probably do to their recent success and that they play in the SEC. Like I said though I feel the next 3 years of recruiting success will be determined by what happens on the field this year for FSU.

by aznole85 on Feb 18, 2012 6:06 PM EST up reply actions

You mean like uF's records have panned out for the last two seasons?

You say that you are sure we will get ours too but are concerned about results on the field next year. If uF loses three or four games and fails, once again, to make it the SEC championship game – which is a real possibility- do you think recruits will be looking elsewhere or does that just happen at Florida State?

I feel more like I do now, than I did before

What I'm trying to say is...

Unfortunately, UF has more going for them, especially right now. They have won two national championships within the last 6 years, they play in the SEC ( which is a big deal to a lot of recruits, because a lot of players want to play against the best and well that is the SEC ), they have a great academics, lots of funding, good facilities. etc. Listen I’m a nole til I die but to say UF doesn’t have a natural advantage in a lot of aspects is just plan foolish. I’m not a naive fool, I tell it how it is. So yes if both teams had mirror seasons for lets say 3 years, regardless of coaching situations and all other situations. UF would have more success recruiting then us. You proved my point for me actually, look at how bad UF was last year, yet this still had a pretty good class last year, yeah this missed out on a few but they also had 3 five stars signed. Now look at how they are doing this year so far, Taylor is almost a given, but they rest of the guys they signed are all very good. Maybe if I write with a little more homerism and passion you might see what I’m saying……

Unfortunately FSU will always have a steeper hill to climb to win a national championship, but that is makes being Nole that much sweeter… if I started out or ended like that would it be more agreeable or clear?

I think all that the UF example shows is that

W/L record has little effect on recruiting.

I don’t think he has the height to make it worth it, glad to hear how athletic he is though. Really want to land him, if for no other reason to keep adding Green(e)’s to the roster.

keep this up

and we can say that we have more Green than Auburn

So the Crocs are on track to land the top 4 S's.....

in the state of Florida (as of now).

Neal, Washington, Harris?, McQuay?

they really cleaned up this weekend

they pull 6 kids is amazing,7 of their 9 are 4 stars already, interested to see how our upcoming Jr weekend goes.

Like Michael@TN was telling you guys, the Gators had a big head start and FSU had to keep up.

They’re prime for a great class.

There depth chart is really wide open

It is impressive to see how they have done with such a poor start in the playing season.

by aznole85 on Feb 19, 2012 11:40 AM EST up reply actions

I've heard this said before several times...

But I don’t understand – Jimbo and his staff have been here quite a bit longer than Muschamp & Co. – how is it that they could get a head start when we’ve had more time as a collective unit to scout and recruit the state? I am not trying to be dramatic, nor am I terribly worried about how our class will turn out. The sky is definitely not falling. But I just don’t get it. UF is absolutely cleaning house right now. Yes, the talent is deep in FL this year so there are still tons of kids left for us, yes they have better resources, and yes they have won two NC’s in the last few years so there will be lots of kids who’ve grown up UF fans – but how, with a program that’s gone through x amount of OC’s in the past four years, are we playing catch up? If we don’t land a couple good commits at our upcoming JR day next weekend, I feel like some of these questions will be much more warranted.

Just commenting. Not worried in the least bit.

I dont think the NCs really matter that much in terms of their recruiting

Completely new coaching staff. uf has resources, in a good state for talent and in a good conference; but they also have more spots open in terms of their depth chart. Kids that are looking to play early have a better shot at uf than fsu right now (espeically on offense).

Again, as I stated earlier we still have 11.5 months to go and the summer camp circuit also. Plus do we expect all of these kids to stick to their commitments? I’d say no.

by WPNoleJ on Feb 19, 2012 5:02 PM EST up reply actions

Bud, Michael, or DA-2 (or all three)-

Can we please get a list of recruits who will be attending our Junior Weekend next weekend? It would also be of great interest to have you guess the likelihood of each recruit being offered (lock for an offer down to no chance), and the likelihood of the recruit commiting. Thanks.

by olenole66 on Feb 19, 2012 10:18 PM EST up reply actions

I"m not one of them and I'm not answering your question because idk

but considering Bud’s conservative nature, good luck at getting him to play the guessing game on player’s interests at this point. Though it would be interesting to see a list of who is going. Michael has been MIA…. maybe he got caught up in the Mexican drug trade or something. DA-2 is your best bet at this point….

by aznole85 on Feb 19, 2012 10:34 PM EST up reply actions

Don’t expect a lot of commitments. In a year this deep, FSU isn’t going to take a ton of early commitments.

by Bud Elliott on Feb 20, 2012 8:27 AM EST up reply actions

Odds are there is a Fowler within the group

which one will it be and hopefully FSU can get in their ear. Ever since Greg Reid and 2011 we haven’t gotten many steals, I think this will be the year that we get ours.

by aznole85 on Feb 19, 2012 11:38 AM EST up reply actions

it was a gread day for Florida

3 caveats though:
a. commitments on/close to visits don’t always stick
2. these guys will certainly take visits elsewhere, which means their verbal is soft
d. other teams won’t stop recruiting these guys

Championship!

by TLHWG on Feb 19, 2012 11:44 AM EST up reply actions

The Crocs will get their share and that's a given!

So that’s not really the point was trying to make about them hoarding all the tops DB’s in the state of Florida. It’s just that S is a need position for us and they all seem to be lined up trying to get into Gaytorland. It’s just a little frustrating, that’s all.

by Noletorious on Feb 19, 2012 5:10 PM EST up reply actions

There's about six kids

that I believe FSU would take out of their class right now (McMillian,Taylor, Powell,Adams, Brantley, and Washington) but only two (McMillian and Washington) that FSU have had real contact with. With that being said, now is not the time to be reactionary. I’d only like to see about 1-2 commits heading into the spring evaluation period

by westcoastnolefan on Feb 19, 2012 11:49 AM EST reply actions

I agree

you gotta take the current player rankings with a grain of salt—none of these guys will finish with their player current ranking: they’ll either drop or increase, b/c rankings are relative, i.e., they are determined not only on what the player does but what other players do over the next 11 months.

FYI: one of the commitments, Quinton Powell is 190 and is a LB.

Championship!

by TLHWG on Feb 19, 2012 11:59 AM EST up reply actions

So was Telvin

24/7 says 195, either way LB is a position of need for us this year and UF already has 4 LB commits.

by Ocalanole on Feb 19, 2012 12:16 PM EST up reply actions

Oddly enough… I recall a lot of the “in the know” guys on the board mention how a bad season won’t necessarily affect any 2012 recruits, but 2013 and 2014 kids will notice. UF is certainly bucking that line of thinking right now, with arguable one of their worst back to back seasons in a long time and poised for another less than stellar season in 2012. Don’t think it can so easily be applied all the time lol.

by SimaNole on Feb 19, 2012 12:01 PM EST reply actions

But when you look at their depth chart they can sell playing time

and most of the time that’s all kids care about. When can they play and who am I playing against. Quickly and the SEC helps the gators in both departments

by Dizzim on Feb 19, 2012 2:10 PM EST up reply actions

And their staff can just plain recruit.

We aren’t the only staff with great recruiters in FL anymore.

All the OOS doesn’t concern me – Miami will take a small class, and our needs don’t clash so heavily with UF that we’ll have issues, and we’ll do well in FL, GA, AL, and hopefully LA and a certain RB from TX who used to live in Jazx

Wow that dude is a serious hitter....

Love the speed and great tackling form (driving through the ball carrier). How’s his competition? I ask this because its always unusual to see a kid physically dominate other player like he is in his film.

Did you just now watch his film?

It is scary to think that the video we are watching is of him as a sophomore. Imagine what his senior footage will look like. The only knock if there is such a thing is the lack of coverage available to analyze in his film. He has said himself that is the area he needs to work on. But I don’t think you will ever find a sophomore lb in the country who can stop ANY ball carrier in his tracks. I’ve pretty much come to the conclusion that he has a paralyzing/numbing agent on his jersey that stops players instantly on contact.
