Urban out-recruited FSU on the D-Line?
These guys think so. I vehemently disagree. Maybe I'm just being a homer? Did losing out on Fowler hurt that bad?
"The defensive line group that includes Noah Spence, Adolphus Washington, Se’Von Pittman and Tommy Schutt may be the best D-line group in the country, while the need to plug holes on the offensive line was met with the signing of five potential--wait for it...B1G Uglies, headlined by tackles Kyle Dodson and and Taylor Decker. Now if only a bowl were in the offing for 2012....."

Doesn't matter
Michigan is still going to kick their ass this year.

Don't forget, Rivals still calls MEj a DT
And because of that, we have a #1 DT class and a weak DE class.
I don’t think Jacoby’s Brisket will agree with them next year.
The use of the words "may be"
and the forum (Big 10 blog) water down that “iffy” comment immensely.
Scout
has FSU ahead of Ohio State on the DL (they don’t breakdown DT/DE) and when you combine the points total of Rivals, FSU has 513 points (DT 458 + DE 55 ) while Ohio State has 428 points (DT 37 + DE 391)

I'm not suprised at how Urban is going about this...
everybody talked about the spread offense down in Gainesville, but anybody who knows (which includes Bud Elliot readers) knows that his success probably had more to do with his beastly front 7’s.
First loading up on awesome D-lineman is such a quick way to respectability. With his recruiting acumen, and OSU’s resources, expect them to be near the top of this list (and the Big 10) every year.
He may be insufferable, but he knows what he’s doing here…
They do say: that good teams are built from the lines, out.
And yes, you’re right about that aspect of Meyer’s teams. We have had incredible defensive lines from 2005 and continuing…

and it's fair to say he learned that lesson from the SEC, not from Utah.

and if he builds team with SEC size and quality, he dominate the Big10
for as long as his spasmotice throat holds out. If he thinks the gator fans exerted too much crazy pressure, he needs to talk with Kirk Herbstreit about OSU fans.

Not surprising.
There are so many in the press and media that year-after-year have such raging hardies for Ohio State AND Urban Meyer, just like they do for Notre Dame, Texas, USC, and Michigan. Saw today where someone already had USC predicted to start the season at #2.
Back-to-back state champions - I'll take it.
they may teach the SEC and wannabes like us that you can indeed have a great defense and a high scoring offense
all at the same time!

USC
USC will be good until they have a few injuries. Their depth will be an issue as the season progresses. They will be playing with less bodies, and thus are an injury or two away from hurting at more than one position. I see them losing two games minimum..
USC was one of the best teams at the end of last season
They’ll do very well this year as well.
Like FSU, they may lose two or three games and then again, they may win them all.
Bounces and injuries. Bounces and injuries.
By "end of the season," you mean end of November.
No conference championship game, no bowl. So they beat Notre Dame, and Oregon, two teams I generally believe to be overrated, and some other PAC-12 filler. Good, but not enough to be placed over Alabama, or a few other teams in my opinion. I stand by my assumption.

they can go to a bowl next year

Got to agree, but it was October and November
Going 7-1 at the end of the season with a triple overtime loss to a top 5 ranked Stanford is total bs.It means nothing that they beat Oregon and UCLA, the two teams in the Pac 12 championship game. But they did just squeak by UCLA by 50.
They went to ND and beat them by 31-17. I’m trying to remember what we did in the ND bowl game on a field in Florida.
USC is simply overrated going into next year with the leading contender for the top award in college football throwing to the top receiver tandem not playing in the NFL.
Way overrated.
Thank you.
My thoughts exactly. USC is playing in a BCS bowl. I hope its not against us.

Law, my argument has nothing to do with Florida State or how they did against Notre Dame.
My argument is against putting USC in the #2 slot. You can mock my opinion all you want. You believe I’m wrong because USC beat both participants in the PAC-12 Championship game? Okay. UCLA was there due to USC’s post-season ban. They actually had to get special permission from the NCAA so they could participate in a bowl game after becoming technically bowl ineligible in the PAC-12 Title game, due to the fact they shouldn’t have been there in the first place. I’m not really surprised or impressed USC beat UCLA by 50. UCLA, the 6-8 team with a losing season. They played Stanford in a three OT loss? Fair enough. Stanford. Let’s see, they beat ND, and they beat USC, and the previously mentioned PAC-12 filler. They lost to Oregon and Oklahoma State, so how great were they again? You went on to compare how USC beat ND to how Florida State beat ND. My argument says nothing about FSU, or comparing them with USC. My argument is based upon them being placed in the #2 slot. I haven’t seen enough evidence to put them above the reigning national champions. I also had not seen enough evidence to buy into the whole Florida State #5 deal last year. Why am I not buying in to USC at #2, when they’ve got the leading contender for Heisman and the top receiver who haven’t played a single down in 2012? Same reason I didn’t really understand the whole cp7forheisman.com hype (although I loved watching him play and thought he was great). Sorry, but I believe Alabama would have in 2011, and most likely would in 2012 beat every team you mentioned: USC, Stanford, Oregon, UCLA, Notre Dame, and although I don’t like to admit it, probably Florida State. I don’t even LIKE Alabama, but that’s reality. I never said USC will suck, and I’m sure they will be good, but not pre-season #2. And if they ever get to #2 during the season, it’ll still be behind #1 Alabama.

Chris
You make good points.
Here’s what Vegas has to say:
LSU…..3/1
USC….6/1
Ala…….7/1
Org……9/1
Ark…….12/1
UGA….15/1
FSU, OU, Va Tech, Mich….18/1
I expect 8 or 9 of these teams to be in the top 10 pre season with the ones that aren’t in the next 5 (IMHO, Va Tech is the team most likely to miss top 10). I also think the top three will match the top three in Vegas…and in the same order.
