2012 Coaches Clinic
I will be traveling down from Indianapolis for the 2012 coaches clinic. I have a couple of quesitons for anyone who has participated in this and other travel info about Tallahassee.
1.) Where are the best night social gatherings after this coaches clinic? Do any of the coaches go out after the clinic?
2.) My fiance will be joining me (she tolerates my love for FSU -- trying to make her a diehard NOLE, this trip would help!). Where can she go to keep busy and not bother me... Which gulf beaches are an hour or two away?
Thanks for you input!

Sorry man...
Still learning the rules of posting. I’m looking for some help when traveling down to tally. Its hard being a die hard NOLE when you live 1200 miles away!
Thanks bud

Beaches
I don’t know much about the nightlife in Tally anymore, but for going to the beach I’d recommend St George Island. It’s about a 2 hour drive. After crossing the bridge, turn left and head down to the state park. There are closer beaches, but they’re not nearly as nice: you have to get fairly far away from the Big Bend to find the nicer beaches.
Cape San Blas is also excellent, but somewhat further west. Even further you get into the Panama City and Ft Walton area beaches, but the drive is probably prohibitively long.
Is the poster known as FSU actually Terry Saban? And why does TN not want you to know?
I second SGI. Apalachicola has some fun shops too.

Also check out The Owl Cafe. Crab dip appetizer is awesome. Lots of good lunches.

Believe it or not
but PC and the Destin area are only about 30 minutes further away than St. George and are light years superior. Whiter sand, clearer water, wider beaches, and hundreds of times more things to do.
If you just want to veg out then St George is your spot. Otherwise, invest the extra 30 minutes and see why tens of thousands go further west.

Apalachicola is a great way to spend a day. Lunch at Boss Oyster.
I drive down just for the food when I’m in Tallahassee. And my wife likes the shops. Very quaint, slightly rundown OLD southern town. In town take her to Hotel Duval’s bar for a sunset cocktail at least one night.
I agree with Law74
I just moved full time to my second home in the Destin area after maintaining homes in Tallahassee and in the Destin area for ten years. I have made the drive several hundred times. It only takes 30 minutes more (at the very most) and the difference in the beaches and water clarity is huge. There is also much more to do here. Only reason to go to St. George is if you want more of the old Florida flavor, and more laid back atmosphere.

Panama City Beach 2 hours 15 mins http://g.co/maps/99k8m
Cape Sand Blast 2 hours 38 mins http://g.co/maps/h84u4
Cape Sand Bast might be a bit out of her driving range but it is a pretty drive. Beats the I10 heading to Panama City. If she has never been it might be worth it.
But as CSFUU pointed out St George Island would be my 1st choice. Nice drive, great beaches, and its not far
St. George Island 1 hour 47 mins http://g.co/maps/gtgss
Why would you take I10
Highway 20 is faster, I live in PCB, and it only takes 2 hours to get to Tally. I also have to agree with law74, the beaches at PCB are light years nicer than St. George or the cape.

Agreed with PCB over St. George. St. George is only impressive if a beach is a novelty.
Otherwise it’s pretty much an armpit. Nothing to do, and mediocre fried seafood.
That's why it's such a great veg place
Nothing to do but drink, fish and veg out. But you certainly don’t have to worry about crowds. They’re elsewhere.
