Welcome to the TLC Double C

Most of you should know that you don’t just waltz into the TLC Double C and expect to get a win.

As Florida State Seminoles basketball attendance and fan enthusiasm rise to unprecedented levels, let’s take a look back at some of the most notable moments in the history of the Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center.

Last season, FSU had the 6th largest increase in absolute attendance over the previous season. Over the course of the 2010-2011 season's 15 home games, the Seminoles averaged 9,327 fans, which was good enough for 47th (of 335) nationally. This was the highest season average since the fan fervor backing the Elite Eight squad during the 1992-1993 season.

The attendance rise was partially a result of playing home games against Florida (#14), Ohio State (#2), Duke (#1), and North Carolina (#13). Still, removing those games results in a healthy attendance increase of 15.6%. Games against Miami and Boston College were the 2 largest crowds against unranked teams since the TLC Double C was renovated. It only took back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances for casual fans to notice that FSU had a respectable basketball team.

Like most other schools, the Seminoles announce inflated figures; however, this is the best available data. In fact, Seminoles.com and FSU’s basketball media guide fail to include any potentially relevant individual game attendance figures or annual attendance averages. Though Seminoles.com includes a table of the 25 largest crowds at Doak Campbell Stadium and the top 20 largest crowds at Dick Howser Stadium, basketball attendance records are nonexistent. Thus, individual game box scores from nolefan.org (excellent resource) were used to compile the following lists, and the day of one of the biggest home games in FSU history seemed like an apropos time to unveil this raw data.

Due to Coach Leonard Hamilton's success, FSU will no longer need to obfuscate the facts. In fact, a quick review of our past fandom highlights how much Coach Hamilton has accomplished since arriving in 2002.

The Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center ("Donald L. Tucker Center") was renovated prior to the 2000-2001 season, and the official capacity for basketball has been listed at 12,100 since Coach Hamilton arrived in 2002. This should explain why the 12 highest attendance totals are pre-renovation. Currently, the TLCCC is 6th largest arena in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The Tournament Train (trademark Jeff Cameron, train conductor) is sold out and it's not coming back to the station.
