Umm. I've never been a huge Maguire fan but the coaches see something and I'm quite impressed by this video. SIAP.

Honestly, he's doing things that I wish EJ could do...
Like hit a receiver in stride on a deep ball.
Obviously, I am exaggerating somewhat, but the kid obviously has a great arm and is athletic. He will definitely keep Winston on his toes.
....not panicking when the blitz is coming
That fact that I'm paranoid doesn't mean that there isn't a conspiracy against us
He moves his feet well...
has a cannon, and keeps his focus when the pocket shrinks……wish EJ was better at a couple of those too.

Oh Man
Things I noticed:
- Not afraid to stand in the pocket and take a hit
- Has great pocket presence – knows when to bail and not bail
- Looks off receivers and uses the pump fake (a la Brady)
- Hits them in stride every time
- His feet never stop moving
- Avoids the rush with ease
- Throws a perfect swing pass
- All of this against what looks to be some good competition
This doesn’t suck.

Havent seen his film before
He looks pretty damn good actually, wing T offense too. Ponder clone.
Tomahawk Nation- Great FSU football and English lessons!
He's not mobile like Ponder though.

Can't be.
He doesn’t throw it sidearm.
His release is not especially pretty, but it’s quick and it’s accurate and it works. I hope we don’t spend three years trying to “fix it” as we did with EJ, who was also accurate in HS.

Who do you redshirt?
If you redshirt them, you save them for a year, which we knew would happen this year because of the upperclassmen ahead of them…
However, as talented as they are, you only can have one signature QB per team; the other guy is just a “in-case” Luckily this year we had Trickett or I suppose we would have been a little more angry this past season…by RS both of them, you have at least one superstar wasting talent on the bench…
It is amazing that we have signature talent from our entire QB squad, and because of this, someone will want to transfer…
Manuel (RS SR) Trickett (RS SO) Coker (SO) Secord (RS JR), Gilbert, (JR), Read (SR)…and now Winston and Maguire.
I’m sure most did not know that Andrew Nowels was on the squad as a SR last year…in 2007 he was a sought out commodity, but not apparently a five star like…wait we didn’t get a QB for the class of 07…according to scout…I don’t put trust into Scout anyways…they ranked one Taiwan Easterling as a 2*…complete madness
So my point is this: If you were CFJ, and you needed to settle this, how do you do it without one QB transferring?
Sorry for the loose train of thought...

Not sure
if walk-ons Gilbert and Read have scholies. These two guys are both about 5’10" and 185.
Secord is all but gone.
That leaves Coker, Trickett, Winston and Maguire to fight it out in the near future.
Seems about right to me.
IMHO, you redshirt both our incoming guys. Trickett has played in games and Coker looks like a solid prospect. They are your #2, and #3 guys heading into fall.
No true freshman without spring should play qb.
trickett will be a true sophmore
And I think coker will be a redshirt freshman

Seen him play a lot....comes from a pretty good prep school in NJ.... They routinely send top recruits to mostly Boston college and Maryland....Jimbo is getting a steal..
Mark my words…this kid will give jameis and co a run for their money….

Realizing that this is a highlight film, so all his decisions look good,
it sure looks like the kid has talent. Why was he not rated higher by the recruiting services?
Wing T offense means this "highlight" reel could be all the film he's got.

I'm not sold just yet.
The good:
throws a nice deep ball
good pocket awareness
looks very accurate
The bad:
often holds the ball too long
threw off his back foot a couple times there
seems to be a bit slow
He actually threw the receiver open on a couple of those
Very impressive for a high school kid. A lot of the plays seem to develop really slowly. I don’t know if he’s holding the ball too long, if his receivers just don’t have the speed to get downfield and/or get open, or the plays are just drawn up that way. Might be something to watch. He also throws off his back foot a little more than I’d like. But the positives far outweigh the negatives, and most of those appear to be fixable with proper coaching.
