Hamilton - The Game Changer
Haven't always been a fan of his offense, but no one can question his work ethic and integrity. Great representative for FSU. Ira Schoffel wrote this tremendous article in Sunday's Demorcrat and it has been made a free article. Must read for all 'Nole fans.

I posted the FanShot right after you, deleted it now. :) It’s a great article. Learning about Ham’s upbringing made me feel like I have a little more insight into what makes the guy tick on the court, and how he handles himself in general.
I’m enjoying watching FSU basketball more over the last few years than I ever have in the past. He’s doing hard work.
Dan Patrick: "Is Ponder a good name for a quarterback?"
Christian Ponder: "Why? Because you say I overthink things? is that what you’re trying to imply? As crazy as it sounds, my mom’s maiden name is actually SuperBowlWinner. Isn’t that crazy?"
DP: "Now is that hyphenated?"
CP7: "No, it’s all one word."
Also...
Ham can smile! There’s photographic proof right there in that article! Who knew?

This is a fantastic article. What a story.
No wonder the guy does not accept excuses when it comes to execution, especially on defense, makes perfect sense. Considering his upbringing, I don’t think he could coach any other way.
I’m gonna stop complaing about my life now.

Someone needs to make a movie out of this!

fantastic stuff
this is a nice birthday present from Ira. it reminds me of the article he wrote a few years ago about Lamarcus Joyner keeping his head down to get out of Liberty City and avoid his brothers’ fates. i REALLY wanted to read that article a few weeks ago, but i cannot find it anywhere other than to buy it from the Democrat, so if anyone has it…
these are the kind of stories that make us middle class kids take stock of how great our lives are, and remind us that we need to get off our lazy butts and take advantage of the opportunities that arise. there is truly no substitute for hard work and perseverance.
this article should be emailed/handed to every recruit that really considers FSU. Coach Hamilton is totally sincere when he tells parents that he cares about their kids as a whole – he will make them better basketball players, but he will make them better men (if they are willing) and help them graduate, things that are truly underrated nowadays.
"I guess they have a reputation of being more of a tricky team and not being tough. You hit ‘em in the mouth, and they don’t like it. Other teams that have beat them just hit them in the mouth, so that’s what we started out with.’’ - Nick Moody
Wow.
What an awesome story, glad he is in charge of molding our kids. Go Noles!

Agree, fantastic article
Because of his “reserved” let’s say, personality, I guess this story is just coming out right now. A guy like Bruce Pearl, when he was at Tennessee, it seemed like you knew what kind of cereal he ate each morning. Probably because he painted it on his ass and mooned you.
It’s a shame that the college basketball world isn’t more aware of this. I wonder if our players even knew all this before the article.
Just more incentive to keep this run going and open some eyes about this guy.
Also, love the mental imagery of “Hamp” running, slashing and dunking with authority. David Thompson-esque vertical huh?
Also dropping the dude with one punch
Hamp has a line. And it takes alot to get there. But, man, don’t cross it!
Wow
What a moving article. It’s a shame Ham’s story hasn’t come our sooner. My only guess is that’s because the bball team hasn’t been this big of a story in nearly 20 years… Truly amazing story

Is Ham...
the exact opposite of Dabo Swinney? Maybe I’m being hard on Dabo but Ham has taken so much crap with such overpowering class, I couldn’t help thinking about Dabo cussing, whooping and jumping in circles like a JV cheerleader after CU beat Auburn, his whining about the fans who “did not deserve” -the team- him after they beat VT in the ACCCG, and his bewilderment as he took seventy the hard way against WVU in the OB.
Leonard is so together; he’s never even bothered to defend himself against his detractors. I can’t ever recall him talking about himself in detail. While I never wanted to see Ham fired I have to admit I didn’t know or properly appreciate who he is.
Excellent article and a “must read” for every FSU fan.

Great article
Something tells me that w/ less than 20 comments, the TN community has not read this piece. I hope that changes. It’ll be tough to look at Coach the same, and I for one hope he finishes his career in Tallahassee.

From someone who has been critical of Ham
This piece makes me greatly appreciate his effort for our program and definitely makes me proud that we can call Ole Hambone a Nole.
And to the Basketball contributors here at TN….Thank you, all of you do a great job.
