Foxsports shows Fisher on the hotseat for 2012.
10. Jimbo Fisher, Florida State
There’s just no way around it. This is a huge season for Fisher and the entire Seminoles program. Last year was supposed to be the statement season in Tallahassee, a return to glory following an unusually long bout with mediocrity. It never happened, as hopes for an ACC crown and a possible national championship contention were capsized by an unthinkable 2-3 start, and a home loss to Virginia in November.
Florida State closed the year with a lackluster 18-14 defeat of Notre Dame in the Champs Sports Bowl, hardly where this team expected to be after the holidays. The school has one more season with former five-star quarterback recruit EJ Manuel, and more than enough returning talent to fulfill expectations this time around. If the ‘Noles are once again unable to break through with their first BCS bowl game appearance since 2005, the bloom might be tomahawk chopped off Fisher’s rose.
** How much do you agree or disagree here? Is Foxsports a little jaded because they hyped the Noles a little too much in 2011? Are they ignoring the fact that FSU was starting freshmen across its entire offensive line by season end?

Very negative caption in ragards to the Noles. Makes you wonder where it comes from...
Lackluster 18-14 win of ND? Would it have been lackluster if the Irish won?
Did they miss the part about starting all freshmen on the line the second half, and coming out scoring 18 unanswered with an absolutely smothering defensive performance?

Unfortunately, there were many on here that weren’t ready to wait one more season. We had posters break down the schedule, come up with 3 losses, and still expected an appearance in the NCG.

Now we have the depth to absorb a rash of injuries, not like last year, but a normal rash of injuries. A loss like the one to UVA will be unacceptable.

This is the problem with CFB media now
they create a whirlwind of hype all on their own, then trash the team when they don’t live up to their standards for them.
That's true of all media...
Take a look at how many “polls” are out there…Half the stories you see are about the polls that the media took, then broke down their results. It’s lazy, shallow journalism.
the belief that last years was supposed to be a statement season was based wholly on
the following research: seeing a tee-shirt that said “the time is now”
Championship!
FIRE FOX SPORTS
Jimbo made an interesting comment in an interview after signing day. It was something like, “Last two years, we were recruiting a team. Now, we get to recruit for a program.” It was a great statement. We are finally more than starters deep at critical positions. Last year, we did not have BCS depth at multiple positions.
Cirminiello is absurd - he's contradicted many of the things he's said about FSU recently with this.
Look at this article written by him: http://cfn.scout.com/2/1041333.html
Best rookie coaches of 2010:
“Quick, get this guy a long-term extension: 1. Jimbo Fisher, Florida State "
Yet after a 9-4 season, with injuries to starting QB, 5/top9 OL, starting RB, seemingly every WR, starting CB’s, etc. Jimbo Fisher is on the hot seat.
A lackluster defeat of Notre Dame? Holding a top 25 F/+ offense to 1 offensive TD, held YPP to >10% lower than their lowest YPP? Mounting a comeback with 4 straight scoring possessions with 4 true freshman up front? Yes, lackluster.
His 2011 FSU preview: http://cfn.scout.com/2/1080544.html
Key player to season: EJ Manuel. Clearly hurt for all 4 losses. It’s no coincidence that he started looking much worse after the BC hit.
Key offensive player: Andrew Datko. You know how his shoulder worked out.
Let’s follow along with Mr. Cirminiello’s logic:
So a shade over a year ago, Jimbo Fisher was the best rookie coach in the nation. The two offensive players he considered most important were hurt. The player “key to season” was hurt – lost in Q3 OU, gone all of CU, showed up in Q2 WF and played hurt while risking reinjury. Got reinjured at BC game and never looked same down stretch.
Now, despite losing self-described “key” players, FSU was supposed to make a “statement” season?
Cirminiello is just one of the many dozen national sportswriters who will rank FSU lower for 2012 previews than 2011 because “they got burned again”. He’s another lazy journalist who will look at record instead of resume.

Great breakdown!
It’s nice to be able to hold journalists accountable to their own words.
One great thing I believe Tomahawknation brings to the table is this – you might not always agree with what we say, but we will bring statistics to back it, and we won’t flip-flop on our stance. It might not be the popular sentiment, but we will own it none-the-less.

If we go 9-4 again next year, there will be many right here calling for his head. Injuries or not. Every fanbase is made up of at least 85% idiots, we’re no exception. We’ve just managed to get a high number of that other 15% in one place, TN.

I fully agree. You can tell when a coach is in over his head, and Fisher just isn’t. He’s rebuilding a national brand against teams that made all the right moves the last decade or so, and he’s crafting a team of truly elite players. Jimbo gave me a reason to believe we could win every game we came to, simply because I can feel we’re moving in the right direction.

This guy has no clue
>>>─────;;─►
No, this list is for 2012
“Last year” would’ve been the 2011 season.
To be fair, he doesn't actually say that Fisher is on the hot seat.
He’s just saying that these coaches need to get off to a “hot start,” whatever that means.
He goes on to say:
“Now, that’s not to suggest that all are facing must-win situations. Jimbo Fisher and Will Muschamp, for instance, are safe at Florida State and Florida, respectively, even if they don’t compete for a league title. However, that doesn’t quell the urgency to exceed last season’s uninspired and disappointing efforts on the field.”
After just 23 wins the previous 3!
I think if half our team doesn’t get KO’d by Week 3 and FSU still fails to produce, then we can start warming Jimbo’s seat. But I’d give him at least 2-3 years before I’d consider him on the HOT seat.

Agree with some and Disagree with most
-Agreed that this is a big season coming up, and we need to live up to expactations
-Disagree that Jimbo is on the “hot seat”
-Disagree with lackluster v ND
We have done so well recruiting that if we have terrible luck again and somehow manage to lose 4 we will still be strong in 13 and 14. I personally think it is more likely we lose only one than lose 4.

look guys, we just need to win the acc and then see what happens after that
if we win the acc, but lose to say OU in the bowl, it happens. if we get to the acc champ and lose to X team, well, that’s already been done before so therefore not good enough. bottom line, we don’t have to win the MNC next year or even our BCS game (although would be nice) to be back on track with a more than likely 11 win successful season. so 10 reg season wins plus the acc champ is essentially a must this year IMO.
If we lose to OU again...

That's all some of us are saying.
Problem is folks here are taking The Unluckiest Year In The History of NCAA Division I-A Football™ as Jimbo’s new baseline. So he goes 10-4 next year and it’s “Look at the improvement he made through all the adversity!” Well, West Virginia is off the schedule and so we’re out of excuses. It’s Charlotte or Bust, and if Bowden couldn’t get away with “50% of teams lost today,” I’ll damn sure expect a win against an overmatched opponent.
And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.
Tomahawk Nation didn't cause my divorce. It was merely a contributing factor.
Why not fire the offensive staff
after the first 3 and out and get rid of Stoops and his guys after the opponents first touchdown? That would send a message that we’re serious. Just because a guy wins a game doesn’t mean he’s good; win by 40 points plus every game this season or clean house.
Process is for losers.
Dogs bark in the night but the caravan moves on.
The problem with your idea is that if we have a key injury in the Clemson game, we can possibly go 7-1 in conference, 11-1 regular season, and not go to Charlotte.
You need to remember this isn’t the 90’s, and we aren’t the only Atlantic team who’s dedicating resources to being a successful program.
Clemson, despite Dabo, will be a real factor every year.
We could very easily have poor timing on key injuries again, and go 11-1 and miss the ACCCG. Won’t happen, but it’s that simple.

Here's the way I look at it. (since we're going down the too far out to predict discussion path)
By the time we kickoff in Sept ’13, FSU should be great (not just good, great) at OL, RB, WR, and really good at TE. QB is the only question on offense, but I like our chances with Coker and a GREAT supporting cast.
Defense will naturally take a step back from likely tops in the country. Replacing the secondary and DL will hurt, but we’ll have 4 consecutive top-5 recruiting classes, many of whom will be quite experienced, to fill the voids. Nobody in the ACC will come that close to the 4-year talent haul FSU brought in. Nobody.
If I had to bet right now (which would be dumb this far out), I’d put money on FSU winning the division.

I completely agree with both of you. We should have a pounding running game, and plenty of playmakers at every skill position. QB is the big question on offense, but will be fine. The defensive step back is what worries me, particularly in coverage.
The DL will probably be the best off of any single defensive unit.
Replacing Joyner, Jones, Rhodes, Reid is what bothers me. We have plenty of talent coming up, but we’ll have fresh faces at starting positions at CB, FS, OLB, MLB. Replacing the pass coverage abilities of VW won’t be super difficult, and I really like Telvin, but we’re going to have a LOT of fresh blood in pass coverage in 2013.
Clemson is one team who will have all their playmakers, a 5th year senior QB, by then should have a decent OL, and a pass-happy OC who does an excellent job of exploiting mismatches. Couple that with our relatively inexperienced group of kids in coverage, and an early season matchup with CU in 2013 will be easily our most difficult game of the year.
I’m not writing 2013 off by any means, but that’s one matchup that just looks tough on paper, 18+ months out.
Of course, like you said, building of this program will yield consistent results, and we don’t know who of the young talent on defense will step up in 2012. Our program will be consistent and excellent, but Clemson’s 2013 team is where their stars align.
Joyner & Jones are Juniors in 2013.

But if we’re 10-2 I couldn’t see too many other teams getting picked ahead of us for an at-large.
