The Florida State Seminoles (11-1) make their first out of state road trip of the season as the travel to Durham for the start of ACC play. The Noles are having a good spring break so far taking both games in Orlando this week versus UCF, including a 1-0 victory on Wednesday night. The Duke Blue Devils (7-8) are coming off of two straight losses, one against Western Carolina (12-4) and the other against an Appalachian State team that won two of three against LSU this season. Offensively the Seminoles are once again the best in the country, they currently lead the conference in OPS and are second in the nation in OBP right behind Arizona State. Senior James Ramsey is currently tearing the cover off the ball batting .541 with a ridiculous 1.675 OPS. The Blue Devils historically have never had a good offense and this year doesn’t seem to be any different. They rank in the bottom half of the conference in pretty much every significant offensive category. The potent Seminoles offense will have their first tough test of the season as they face Preseason All-American Marcus Stroman. The 5’9 junior righty is coming off a great 2011 season where he ranked second in the nation with 12.60 strikeouts per nine innings. Duke will throw Trent Swart on Saturday and Robert Huber on Sunday and while their numbers this year look impressive it has been against lesser competition. Florida State will counter with the young trio of Leibrandt, Compton and Miller. At times all three have looked great but then have also struggled, as you would expect inexperienced pitchers to do. In order for them to be successful on a consistent basis their combined K:BB ratio of 1.29 has to improve. Although this is not a true test of stiff competition it will be interesting to see how they do on the road in conference play. The Noles have a tough task ahead of them on Friday against an elite college pitcher, a win on Friday and a sweep could be likely. Game times this weekend are at 6:00, 2:00 and 1:00. Go Noles!
