Miami doesn't have a stadium to call its own, so the Hurricanes took their act across Alligator Alley and played a scrimmage in Fort Myers Friday night. Here's a podcast from a Hurricane expert Brandon Odoi of CaneInsider, who was there to take in the scrimmage. I encourage you to have a listen. For those who cannot, I will capture a few of the words.
"If they go 6-6, based on what I've seen, Al Golden should be signed to a lifetime contract. I'm absolutely serious. If they go 6-6 with the team that they have, give him a lifetime contract. If he can take this team to be 6-6 or better, give him whatever he wants, because the talent just isn't there."
A winning record bowl eligibility with this roster would be a major accomplishment? Ouch. That's not exactly groundbreaking stuff to the readers of Tomahawk Nation (I've repeatedly predicted between 5-7 and 7-5, with 4-8 more likely than 8-4), but it is new to see a Cane reporter acknowledge the state of the roster and program. It's also worth noting that Odoi is perhaps the only 'Cane writer discussing the NCAA stuff, saying he expects "at least one more bowl ban, maybe two, and a lot of scholarships." He then discusses how Miami lacks depth at a lot of positions and with the NCAA stuff the depth isn't going to be solved anytime soon.
The entire podcast is worth a listen, despite the audio quality reflecting the recording situation (in his car on the way back from the scrimmage). He runs down each position, and needless to say, is unimpressed.
