LORDY LORDY LOOKS WHO'S GOT 40. The FSU Softball Team swept the Boston College Eagles (12-4, 2-0, 5-0) over the weekend in their final home games of 2012, putting them over the 40 win mark. FSU also went into Baton Rouge last week and smacked down the LSU Tigers 8-1. Overall, the Noles were 4-1 on the week, with their only loss on the road at Troy 4-3.
FSU is 42-11 overall, 15-3 in the ACC and 26-4 at JoAnne Graf Field. If FSU can win 3 of the final 4 games, they'll have the best record since 2004's 62-12 (54-9 regular season). I hope FSU is making a push to host a regional, this team definitely deserves that shot in the playoffs and has a huge advantage at home this season.
ACC Championship Outlook
The Noles have one more ACC Series left starting May 5, at Maryland. The Terps are 5-7 in the ACC currently with a series against BC, the league's worst team, and FSU, the league's best. Maryland is a very middle of the pack ACC team and FSU should easily win the series. Nipping at the heels of FSU are the North Carolina Tar Heels. The Heels are tied in the loss column with FSU in the ACC Standings (FSU 15-3, UNC 11-3), however the Tar Heels missed an entire ACC Series with Maryland and one game last weekend with Georgia Tech due to weather. I'm not sure how the ACC handles this situation, but if FSU sweeps Maryland they'll be regular season ACC Champions. I'm trying to get an answer about other scenarios.
Either way, the goal is to win the REAL ACC Championship, the tournament. FSU has a great shot this year, with plenty of pitching on the roster. They'll have to deal with two very good teams in UNC and Virginia Tech, but FSU won both series this season. If the bats stay hot and the pitching stays confident, FSU should repeat at ACC Champs and have a shot to make it through the NCAA Regionals this year.
Stats / Polls / RPI -
The NCAA is dragging it's feet on stats this week. I'll update when I can get them.
FSU is #17 in RPI this week.

ERA +1 (up to 8 from 9). Team ERA rose slightly to 1.47 from 1.44 even though rank improved.
FSU is #21 in the NFCA / USA Today poll (up from #22).
FSU is #20 in the ESPN / USA Softball poll (up from #22).
End of the Year Stuff
As we head to the close of the season, I want to point out a great job by the FSU Coaching Staff. Lonnie Alameda and company put together a relatively young, speedy team with great pitching and solid defense. These are the types of teams FSU softball fans are used to seeing. While I'd love for us to find some more power bats in the future for the Women's College World Series, we are definitely doing the right things to have ACC Championship caliber teams each season. As a fan, that scores an A on my report card. The core of this team remains for 2013. I feel strongly that the 2013 Noles will see Oklahoma City for the first time since 2004 if they don't make it in 2012.
There's a lot of great softball to look forward to in Tallahassee!
