If I get this right, the incoming class of 2016 will have the same requirements to enroll, but if they fail a higher minimum (so many of the core classes completed before their senior high school year and a higher GPA), they can practice with the team but must redshirt. If they meet minimum first semester rules (9 credit hours passed and in good academic standing) then they can practice the second semester. Supposedly had this year's freshmen been under these rules, 40% of all freshmen across all sports and schools would have been redshirted due to the rules. What makes this different than the old "partial qualifiers" rule is that rather than having only three years to play after the first year, all would have four to play four after that first year if they are in good academic standing.
