Stony Brook in their inaugural visit to the CWS was warmly welcomed by the UCLA bats. The Seawolves pitcher Tyler Johnson gave up 5 runs on 5 hits in the bottom of the first and didn't get much help from his offense that inning. The bruin pitcher, Adam Plutko, was knocked around in the second and Stoney brook had a glimmer of hope as they loaded the bases, but failed to put any runs on the board. The Seawolves earned a run on a rare home run in TD Ameritrade Park by Pat Cantwell, in the fourth but gave up 2 more during the bottom half of the inning. Both teams settled down and UCLA managed to squeeze out another two runs as Plutko pitched 7 nearly flawless innings. The number 2 seed in the series blew past a hot 50+ win Stoney Brook team on there way to a win 9-1 and matchup against either Arizona or the overall 3 seeded Florida State Seminoles. The Cinderella on this side of the bracket really needs to correct some defensive mistakes if they hope to come out with a win this year. Followup on the Seminoles game coming later tonight.
I have gone to most of the CWS games since 1998 when I was a freshman in high school in Omaha, Nebraska. This is truely one of the great college sporting events in the country and fellow Seminole fans should come up and see it live if you havent already. As a son of two FSU grads, and nephew to countless others, I have loved FSU all my life. I will continue with updates on the Seminoles side of the bracket and potential match ups for you to hopefully enjoy. Go Noles!
