Predicted Football Offensive and Defensive Starting Lineups

The football season is approaching rapidly Seminoles, and I believe now is the time to ponder what our initial starting lineup will look like on the first snap versus Murray State on September first. This prediction is tentative of course, barring any injury or unfortunate off-the-field incident (knock on wood), but let the preview ignite discussion and debate. Offensively the obvious starters will be Manuel at QB and Pryor at FB and Nick O'Leary at TE......thats it. Watch for Jimbo to throw in some two-back sets with Freeman, Wilder and Thompson creating depth at the RB position, but expect Wilder to start. Wilder, who looked great in the spring game, gives you a great combination of strength and speed which will compliment our offense in multiple ways. On the line, I expect to see Cameron Erving at LT and Bobby Hart at RT. Jacob Fahrenkrug will start at RG accompanied by Austin Barron at C and Tre Jackson at LG. At first glance, the offensive line unit seems immature and inexperienced. Although this may be true, boy does it have depth and potential. Expect this unit to take large strides over the course of the 2012 season. Expect Fisher to operate out of 3 receiver sets with O'Leary, of course, at TE. Your starters will be Rashad Greene and Rodney Smith on the outside with Kenny Shaw in the slot. This group is super deep and will be able to rotate well. Kelvin Benjamin will probably come off the bench when O'Leary is not in the game or on special match-ups, he is a deep threat who's strength and route running can't be underestimated. Now time to talk defense. To understand how good this unit should be, one must understand that it will be a disappointment if this unit doesn't finish as a top 10 defense in 2012. That being said, let us forecast what the lineup will look like. Stoops will operate out of a 4-3 zone with your Ends being Brandon Jenkins (who will also play linebacker) and Bjoern Werner. The defensive tackle positions will most likely be occupied by Tim Jernigan and Everett Dawkins. This is going to be the best defensive line unit in the country and you can expect many rotations with fresh bodies in and out every other down. The linebacker positions are less clear, I expect Christian Jones to start at the weak side with Telvin Smith in the middle and Nick Moody playing the strong side. After Jeff luc transferred to Cincinnati, the linebacker position is less deep but will be able to compete at the highest level and probably won't have trouble against elite offensive units. The only concern I have is the inexperience of Moody, who is new to lb as he played safety before. In the secondary it shouldn't be a surprise to see the unit set in stone this early with Reid and Rhodes playing the corners with Terrence Brooks and Lamarcus Joyner playing safety. This unit will be extremely fun to watch as they are experienced and dangerously athletic. I also expect Karlos Williams to return kicks and Greg Reid to return punts. This team is experienced and deep and fans should be excited for 2012 to play out.
