As a result of the sanctions imposed by the NCAA on Penn State dictating that the school vacate all wins from 1998 to 2011, former Florida State head coach Bobby Bowden is now the NCAA all-time wins record holder, passing disgraced head coach Joe Paterno.
Paterno and Bowden battled back and forth for much of the 1990s and 2000s, with Paterno ultimately taking the lead with 409 wins.
But the vacated wins from 1998 to 2011, the period in which Paterno actively thwarted an investigation of defensive coordinator and child rapist Jerry Sandusky, Paterno loses 111 wins, which puts him at 298, 79 behind Bowden.
Throughout their coaching careers, Penn State fans blasted Bobby Bowden for several NCAA issues that, compared to the now known actions (or inaction) of Paterno, are inconsequential.
Child abuse is a serious problem and I encourage everyone to learn more about what you can do to stop this or recognize the signs. I have to write this article because it is the most relevant take for a Florida State site, but let's be mindful of the greater issue here.
