Many have said that Sojourn might decommit and now it is official, according to ESPN. The loss of graduate assistants 'T-Buck' and 'KornDog', his weight (152 lbs) and the possible loss of Coach Stoops next year, were the deciding factors in his decision to open the recruiting process again. According to Shelton.

Bud's Take

I want to say all the nice things first. In my dealings with him at camps, combines and tournaments over the years, I have never known Shelton to be anything but a nice kid.

That said, he has not developed into an FSU quality player. The 'Noles, who have been tremendous with early offers and evaluations under Jimbo Fisher's staff, offered Shelton early. He accepted, as he is a big FSU fan.

Then he didn't grow. Shelton can say he is 5'10, but that is just not correct. He's 5'8, less than 160 pounds, and does not have the elite speed or quickness to play at FSU given his height and weight. Even the best evaluators miss from time to time.

Shelton plays hard and is scrappy. But at the top of college football, every player plays hard. If they don't another elite recruit passes them up. Effort and a minimum level of talent are both needed.

I believe he saw the writing on the wall. I believe the parting of ways was mutual and was in no way a surprise. In fact, I've said as early as late March to not be surprised if Shelton did not end up in the class.

Florida State now has 16 commitments. I expect between 8 and 14 more by signing day.
