"This is numero uno — the worst ever," Martin Jr. said of the team’s mad recruiting scramble. "It immediately changes our focus to trying to find some JC (junior college) guys or some late-blooming high school seniors. It puts us behind the eight ball for 2013 recruiting, but we don't have a choice. We are calling and looking to see if anyone has fallen through the cracks." Martin Jr. recently signed Treasure Coast High shortstop Alvin Swoope and Chipola State College catcher Ladson Montgomery. Two other players are expected to sign — outfielder Marcus Davis from Walters State Community College in Morristown, Tenn., and pitcher Billy Strode of Indian River State College. Martin Jr. wants to add two more position players but admitted he might have to travel out of state to find them.
