I am waaay ahead of myself since we haven't even kicked off the 2012 season, but it looks like there will be TWO open dates on the 2013 football schedule. FSU is currently scheduled to play OOC Wofford on August 31 and at Florida on November 30. That leaves 12 Saturdays between those two dates for the 10 remaining regular season games.
Nevada was scheduled for September 21, but it appears that Nevada is backing out of that game; therefore, only one remaining OOC game needs to be added to the schedule since the ACC is moving to a 9-game schedule in 2013 with the additions of Pitt and Syracuse (Pitt will be in the Coastal; Syracuse in the Atlantic w/FSU).
Could 2013 be the year when FSU picks up the Labor Day game again, especially since we have an additional open date to work with in 2013? For example, we could open with new member Syracuse at home on Labor Day night and then have an open date the following Saturday, with another in our pocket for later in the year. That would require rescheduling Wofford, but we could then strategically schedule them later in the year before a Clemson, Virginia Tech, etc. (assuming the ACC would work with us on that).
I'm sure ESPN would love having the defending national champs playing on Labor Day night to close out the 2013 opening weekend, and the extra open date would fit in nicely with that.
