Will Florida State Wear Alternate Nike Uniform Or Helmet In 2012?

Stay connected for news and updates

Yesterday's debut of some shiny new Florida State cleats was met with rave reviews from players, fans, recruits and reporters. And it led to the question: will Florida State have a new, alternate uniform to wear with those new cleats?

Jimbo Fisher is very much a traditionalist and has been a staunch opponent of the blackout/whiteout concept and the uniforms that come with it.

But ESPN's Uni Watch column, a traditionally dependable source with good connections in the apparrel industry, says it's going to happen.

Florida State will wear one of Nike's Rivalry uniforms for at least one game this season. The unveiling will be sometime in September.

But Florida State this morning cautioned reporters this morning, saying "Don't believe everything you read on the internet."

Update: shortly after Florida State issued that statement, ESPN removed the line from the column. Curious.

What's the truth here? It's hard to tell.

Knowing what we know about the 'Rivalry' series from Nike, however, I don't think it's that far fetched that Fisher could have been persuaded. He's very much about the garnet and gold at home. And that's what the rivalry series appears to be.

From the looks of things, the major change appears to be a shinier gold. At least on the cleats and the available hats. Could the 'Rivalry' uniform incorporate more gold? Would that be too nontraditional?

As of now, we don't know.
