I like Tomahawk Nation the website it gives us the best coverage of all things Florida State especially football. But I do get rather upset with some of the blogs and critics’ of EJ Manuel. I get in a day and age of super quarterback’s such as Cam Newton, Andrew Luck, and RG3; as a fan you want your own team to have a QB on that level. I get it what EJ doesn’t do own a consistently basics, Bud and the rest of the Nation illustrate this point very well thoroughly, game in and game out. Does EJ check into right plays all time like Andrew Luck no, Does he make brilliant plays like RG3 no, does he show athleticism of a Cam Newton, not enough. When I look at EJ all he has done at Florida State is answered the call every time his number was called. Take a look at his redshirt freshman year, Florida State was 4-5 when Ponder went down, that team was in danger of not making a bowl but he put that team on his back. Drag them to a bowl game and then won us that bowl game against West Virginia to send Bobby away on a good note. Then you look at his sophomore year where he came in and beat a Clemson team favor to win, with a last second drive, and in that same season beats South Carolina in bowl to give us 10 wins. EJ hasn’t enamored us with great plays, or terrific stats, but he’s won games and came up big in those spot moments on bad teams with glaring weaknesses. Then there’s last year where we, were ready to see something great and amazing from that team but we didn’t ,see that instead we blame EJ and coach Fisher. We don’t blame Tom Brady against the giant s pass rush; we don’t say Tom Brady didn’t check into the right play. But with EJ with seem to place a lot of blame on him and rightfully so at times but not all times.
EJ showed something last night and no it wasn’t stats or decision making but he was great in that area, but he showed leadership. The sign of great QB is when he knows he has to make a plays, and is able to able to show a killer instincts while putting a team away. Clemson isn’t a great defense but they have a great offense, but EJ never blink he continue to make play after play while giving his teammates confidence. I just knew he was going throw some balls to Rashard Greene after he muffed that punt and when Dent drop that pass or almost fumble. He went right back to those guys to build their confidence or at least keep it in tact. A great leader builds confidence in the guys around him, and you got to believe the defense felt good to see their offense say get own our backs tonight we got this. I can’t give all the credit to EJ you have to really appreciate the maturation of Coach Fisher. Fisher knew him and EJ didn’t speak the same language so what did he do, brings Coach Craig down to relate his points to EJ to speak EJ language. I always wondered could Jimbo set a little bit of himself to the side to make this team better and he did; yea he’s still a little angry on the sidelines but he’s in more control of the team. I don’t know if EJ is the great QB we want but he’s the QB for this team can’t think of another QB in FSU history other than Charlie Ward that I would take on this team. EJ doesn’t do anything great but he does win and always shows heart while doing so.
