Who to root for: Week 5

I think college football is more fun when you have more stakes in more games and care about the outcomes. Some do this by betting and making or losing money on the result. For those that don't bet though, I thought I'd throw together a list of games that will affect FSU in the BCS computers at the end of the season.

Last year, this would be meaningless to care about, but since we all really believe that the 2012 team has a shot, we, like Oklahoma State and Alabama fans last year, have a lot at stake with what happens to other teams. Below is the list of important games and how I think we should root.

Stanford @ Washington (Thursday)- Washington. Besides the fact that Stanford is undefeated itself with a win over USC, we don't need an Oregon win over Stanford looking like something really special.

Buffalo @ Connecticut - Connecticut. SOS isn't a separate calculation in the BCS anymore but it is in the computer rankings. UConn was an NCSU and Maryland opponent. Our opponents' opponents matter too. The fact that they were an opponent of two of our teams, means that they are as valuable in some computers as a direct non-con opponent (say USF).

MTSU @ GT - GT. Common opponents plus conference. At least one computer simply uses conference strength as SOS.

Indiana @ Nortwestern - Northwestern. They played BC.

Stony Brook @ Army - Army. They played Wake.

Missouri @ UCF - Missouri. They play UF. Rooting for all of the Gata opponents even when they aren't playing the Gata is the best way to keep our SOS up even when I can't bring myself to root for the Gata.

Ball State @ Kent State - Ball State. Important one because they've played 2 of our opponents (CU and USF). That means in some ratings they are just as important as a non-con direct opponent.

NCSU @ Miami - I say NCSU because NCSU is more likely to look like a quality win at the end of the year (will have a better record). Plus we recruit against Miami, not NCSU.

Duke @ Wake Forest - WF. Wake is much more likely to make a bowl and look like a quality win at the end of the year than Duke.

Nevada @ Texas State - Nevada. They played USF.

Tennessee @ Georgia - Tennessee. Need to knock off another undefeated and Tennessee played NCSU.

Clemson @ BC - Clemson. We need this to look like a quality win at the end of the year.

Troy @ South Alabama - South Alabama. They played NCSU.

Idaho @ UNC - UNC. Common opponents and conference.

La Tech @ Virginia - UVA. Common opponents and conference.

Va Tech vs. Cincinnati - Va Tech. Need this to look like a quality opponent at the end of the year.

Louisville @ Southern Miss - Louisville. Opponent of UNC and USF, and well, it's probably who we are going to get in the OB if we don't make the BCS.

Oregon State @ Arizona - Zona. Don't want Oregon State to keep overachieving and make it look like a quality win when Oregon blasts them. The voters already handed Oregon a top 25 win for free by overrating Zona last week.

Ole Miss @ Bama; Oregon @ Washington State; Towson @ LSU - LOLNOPE

I excluded games were you could argue either way (Kentucky vs. Sakerlina - knock off another undefeated vs. Clemson's opponent). If I missed any obvious ones, please post it in the comments.
