Since this is my first post to the TN board please allow me a moment apologize for any grammatical errors witch eyem shir, will' apeer.
No offense to Bud, Michael or anyone else who is a regular contributor to this awesome site. All of you do a marvelous job and I do realize the work, talent etc. that it takes to do what you do. Thank you! With that said, I'm not a writer and nor would I like to be. But I would like to provoke a line of thinking for our fan base.
I have heard and read several comments this week that are disturbing to hear as a life long fan. They go something like this, "I'm not going to the game this week, it's just Savannah State." And, "I gave my tickets away, this will be just a glorified scrimmage." Or, "Savannah State is just a high school team, why waste the money?" Stop and think about what you're saying. What you're saying comes across like this, "I'm not going to support FSU, even though I have the opportunity to, because they are playing a nobody team. Maybe if they were playing Clemson or UF I would support them then." What that means to me is that you are supporting the competition more than you are supporting your home team FSU. How do you think it looks to marketers and other fan bases when FSU only has large crowds when they play those better teams?
We need to decide that if we have the opportunity to go, we will support FSU home games NO MATTER WHO THE COMPETITION IS! Show the boys that are out there grinding every day in practice with nobody watching that when it comes to game time everybody wants to see the work they put it. Who cares if its first, second or third string? Are they not all worth it? We talk about all the 'depth' that we have, but nobody wants to watch that depth play a game??? In the words of Stephen A., "C'mon man!"
Quit supporting our rivals by only coming to games when they're in town. And ignoring the other games just because they're not up to our level. I don't come to watch the competition necessarily. I come to a game to watch my boys play! I understand that you can't take off work every Saturday to go to a game. Sometimes you can only choose one game a year and that's a no brainer, UF vs FSU. Not everyone can go to every game.
It boils down to this...If you have the opportunity to go to a "No name game" and don't because you don't like who we're playing, then you're choosing to not support our home team. That's not fair to them. LET'S DO OUR BEST TO SELL OUT TO SAVANNAH STATE, OR WHOEVER ELSE, BECAUSE WE LOVE OUR BOYS! OUR TEAM! IF IT'S OUR TIME, SHOW IT! BE THERE!
