Everyone take a deep breath and relax :)
All this angst over where we're gonna be ranked in the final BCS standings????
Fortunately, this has a way of sorting itself out :)
In the first year of the Bowl Championship Series, Kansas State, Tennessee, and UCLA entered the final weekend of the regular season undefeated, but Kansas State lost to Texas A&M in the Big 12 championship game, and UCLA lost at Miami, creating a classic Tennessee-Florida State matchup for the national championship in the Fiesta Bowl.
That Saturday (Dec 5th, 1998), has to be one of my all time top 10 college football Saturdays-and the Noles didn't even play!!! First up the noon game: Miami outlasts undefeated UCLA 49-45 in a game pushed back to this date because of a hurricane in September (thnx Canes)! Next up, TAMU roars back from way behind in the 4th and stuns undefeated KSU in OT (#4 FSU gets into THE game while sitting on their couches). Finally, the nightcap pitted Tenn. vs an over matched and outclassed Miss State squad. Hell if MSU doesn't hold the lead midway through the 4th! Tennessee finally reasserts itself and punches it's ticket to THE GAME!
Happened to watch these games with neighbors in Dublin, OH. The host was a huge Buckeye fan and another neighbor was a UCLA grad (is that not KISMET?). The Buckeyes may well have been the most talented team that year (lost to Michigan State when Plaxico Burress had a game for the ages). Thankfully, we lost at the beginning of the year (vs NC State!) when Torry Holt torched the defense and Weinke ran out of fingers on his throwing hand to count his interceptions-6, yikes! Much hullabaloo as to who should go to Fiesta Bowl, us or Bucks. In the end, Buckeyes left on the outside looking in .....cross your fingers, it could be "deja vu all over again!"
Moral of the story >>>>-----> FSU takes care of what it can take care of!!! More than likely, the rest will take care of it selves.
>>>>-----> GO NOLES, kick NC State back to the stone age! >>>>----->
