Jameis Winston's attorney says sex between QB and complainant "absolutely" consensual

Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

The Jameis Winston investigation continues to play out in the media as Winston's attorney, Tim Jansen, responded Thursday morning to a leak of the DNA results for Winston, saying that the results (Winston was reportedly matched with DNA taken from the complainant) were expected, that witnesses who have submitted affidavits will clear Winston, and that the sex was consensual. He also indicated that one of the witnesses also submitted a DNA sample.

This is noteworthy because although one could have easily surmised that the claim from Winston's camp would be one of consensual sex, this is the first time it has been said publicly by his representation.

Jansen also expressed frustration that he had to hear the results on ESPN, that the leak came from law enforcement, and that the media process is unfair to his client.

Here are tweets from local reporters about the statements given by Jansen.

Previously: Wednesday the complainant's family released a statement blasting the Tallahassee Police Department and accusing Jameis Winston of rape. Wednesday evening, the TPD called a press conference to directly dispute several claims made by the complainant's family. Specifically at issue are whether the complainant stopped cooperating with police, and whether she indicated that she did not want the case to continue earlier in the year when the case was switched to "open-inactive" status.

Late Wednesday night, ESPN's Mark Schlabach somehow obtained a report showing that Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston's DNA matches with the sample collected from the complainant in the December 7, 2012 incident.
