I want to sincerely congratulate the Duke Blue Devils for an outstanding football season. While picked to finish dead last in your division, you proved all the talking heads wrong, won 10 games, and clinched the division title. I really hope the team was able to take some time this week to bask in the sunlight of their accomplishments as they deserved to do this. With this being said, and I am really sincere, I have a bit of advice for you:
Wear your big boy pants on Saturday as I expect it will not be pleasant for you.
For the first time in a month, Jameis will take the field without felony charges dangling over his head and he now has a clear path to the Heisman. I fully expect him to deliver an amazing performance, maybe the best of the season, and that will be a wondrous sight. If the starters were to play the entire game, which is very doubtful, I think it would be possible to score in triple digits. This is not a slight to your defense as they play hard - it's just a measure of how talented the FSU offense truly is.
All the FSU players snubbed by the ACC in their all conference selections will likely use this game to show the ACC the error of their ways. I understand the conference felt the need to spread the love but I know this will add needless fuel to the raging desire of FSU. I fully expect an absolutely dominating performance on both sides of the ball. I see a near repeat of the Idaho game except I doubt the defense will give up 14 points, maybe none at all. Yes, I think Duke is a much better team than Idaho but I think Duke will be on the receiving end of a lot of pent up frustration.
The SEC pundits have been whining all week about how their teams are the "best" even though they have ALL lost at least 1 game. The SEC commissioner actually said an all SEC national championship game between two 1 loss teams is deserved. The only avenue FSU has to demonstrate they belong in Pasadena is to absolutely and totally crush any opponent they face. All a team can do is play the teams on their schedule and win all the games. Sadly just winning is no longer enough, absolute domination is needed to silence the "experts".
I think mercy is OK when the team you're facing is clearly and literally not in your league. Playing your starters the whole game and humiliating an FCS team is classless in my book. However, Duke is a division champion and as such deserves the full attention of FSU for an entire 60 minutes. This is the ACC Championship and not a tune-up game so expect to face a seriously focused team of phenomenal athletes.
So, in conclusion I again offer my sincere congratulations to Duke for an outstanding season. What happens Saturday won't be personal, it's just made necessary by circumstance.
