The great QB battle coming into the spring is by far the most interesting storyline going into the spring, but crazy enough I don’t believe the battle is between Coker & Trickett, but Trickett and Winston. This sounds crazy to me considering that Winston will be a redshirt freshman but when you look at it, it’s not that crazy. If Coker wins the starting QB position that would mean by the time Coker graduates, Winston would be a redshirt senior with one year to start at QB. I can’t remember a QB winning a job one year just to be back in a competition the next years to come. If Trickett wins the QB job, then that would allow either Coker or Winston to have two years to be the starting QB’s. I hear the naysayers of Winston saying he’s playing baseball there’s no way he could grasp the playbook to be the starter; I could give you the Russell Wilson example but just his name should be enough. I’ve heard Coker has problems with the playbook or better yet the offense(checks and reads) and the fact that I notice only Trickett and Winston signaling plays in during games I believe sort of points to this(or maybe I’m just reading too much into it). I also believe Jimbo selection will say a lot about his intentions of how long he will be at FSU. I believe if Jimbo plans to be at FSU for the future he will select Winston, to set up his next three years. Crazy enough I don’t believe Jimbo will be at FSU in the next three years. I remember when everyone was saying EJ had all the talent but lack some understanding of the offense. I like EJ but I do believe Coker could be the next EJ which isn’t all bad but will that get us where we want to be, because what they say about Coker is the same as they said about EJ. Don’t get me wrong 4 bowl wins is great but maybe that’s Coker ceiling just like EJ, always good never great.
The other part that will be interesting in the spring is the coaching staff, offensive and defensive, how much changes will there be? I don’t believe Pruitt is great just yet but the combination of Sunseri and Kelly makes me believe this defense will finally start making game changing plays. Hopefully we see more substitutions on defense which I notice Bama does a lot of. That defense has to find a way to allow some of those young playmakers into the game. Pruitt might have to grow into the position but should be fine. The question I do have is whether Jimbo starts to delegate his responsibility on the offensive side of the ball and that’s starts with allowing his offensive staff to help us form an identity. If Jimbo wants us to believe in him as a fan base we need to win at least 10 games and beat 2 of your 3 rivals which would be Clemson, Miami, and Florida. The offensive line will once again hold the season in their hands.
The biggest question I have is out of Kelvin Benjamin, Mario Pender, and Christian Greene. Will they all be back on the team next year; I heard something about this; maybe you guys can answer these questions for me.
