It's TN's resident FSU Softball fan again.
The ladies started the season 4-0, scoring 35 runs over 4 games (20 against Bethune Cookman) and allowing only 1 run.
Yet again, FSU is led by strong pitching (all of our staff from 2012 returned). Pay attention to Monica Perry, Lacey Waldrop, Bailey Schinella and Jessica Nori. This staff has the potential to win a lot of games and keep the Noles in games against elite teams. The only run scored all weekend was unearned, giving the staff 30 K's while holding opposing batters to a .111 BA.
FSU scored 35 runs over the 4 games, allowing only 1 in a 3-1 win over North Florida. Tiffani Brown came out of the weekend hitting .692. Briana Hamilton dropped two bombs and Kelley Hensley added another. Stephanie Hartness leads the team with 8 RBI. I only saw the FAMU game live on Friday, and frankly FSU struggled a bit offensively. They also had some silly base running mistakes which I'm happy to chalk up to the first weekend of the season. My concern is the same as every other year. This offense is going to have to figure out how to generate runs against elite teams without a huge amount of power. There's plenty of speed and the defense should be well above average, but the bats need to improve in order to make it to Oklahoma City.
I encourage all of you to come out and support the team, even if it's for an inning or two before heading to a baseball game. It really helps the atmosphere at JoAnne Graf Field!
