Florida State football practice report 3/28

Streeter Lecka

The Seminoles practiced in full pads for the second time this spring. It seemed a little crowded out there with the coaching clinic going on, and Fisher decided to let us stay the entire time for the second straight day. Not much changed on Thursday, but there were a few new developments.

*Demonte McAllister, Nick Waisome, Tyler Hunter, and Ronald Darby continued to hang out and observe.

*Demarcus Walker was still out there but not participating.

*Marvin Bracy was still a no-show due to track.

Special Teams

*Kenny Shaw and Rashad Greene were returning punts.

*Roberto Aguayo continued to impress with his accuracy.

Dime Package looked slightly different than yesterday

*This group included Christian Jones [on the line], Jacobbi McDaniel, Timmy Jernigan, Mario Edwards Jr., Lamarcus Joyner, Keelin Smith, P.J. Williams, Telvin Smith, Karlos Williams, Terrence Brooks, and Gerald Demps.

*The difference was moving Christian Jones up to the line.

Defensive Line

*Sal Sunseri was working with the defensive line and the linebackers on blitz packages, some of which looked pretty impressive. Lots of speed at the LB position.

*Gio Newberry and Chris Casher were working back and forth with Jeremy Pruitt and the secondary. Looks like Pruitt is going to look to these guys when he wants a defensive end to drop back in coverage.

*Eddie Goldman was also taking first team snaps again today.

*Mario Edwards Jr. looked really good today in just about everything he participated in.

Offensive Line

*Austin Barron was getting plenty of looks as second team left guard. Cross-training in spring makes sense. Barron, being one of the more experienced back-ups, is going to be expected to be able to come in wherever he may be needed.

*Sterling Lovelady was getting the looks at second team center when Barron was working left guard.

Quarterbacks

*The quarterbacks were running drills that prepare them for picking up fumbled snaps. Pretty interesting to watch.

*Jameis Winston made a couple REALLY nice runs that were designed. Made people miss and took the edge.

One on Ones

*These are always fun to watch. The only matchup that really stood out to me today was between Christian Jones and Jame Wilder Jr. They definitely got into it a few times talking trash, and kept challenging each other to rematches. In the end it came out pretty much even, BUT I would give the edge to Wilder. Those calves...

Practice as a whole didn't bring out many new developments, but you can still see progress. The coaches are working hard to get through to the players. They want 110% effort all the time. The older guys are helping the younger guys adjust, and it's really looking like everyone is starting to buy into it. They don't practice Friday, but they'll return Saturday morning.
