Florida State places six on 2013 Preseason All-ACC Football Team

USA TODAY Sports

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- No school placed more players on the 2013 Preseason All-ACC Football Team than defending conference champion Florida State, league officials announced Wednesday morning.

FSU student-athletes comprise six spots on the annual team as voted on by media gathered at the ACC's football kickoff event; three on offense and three on defense. North Carolina's four total selections were second most in the conference.

On offense, junior right guard Tre' Jackson and redshirt senior center Bryan Stork are first-time Preseason All-ACC selections. The same is true for junior running back James Wilder, Jr., who joins them in one of the two spots tabbed for running backs.

Defensively, junior Timmy Jernigan, senior linebacker Christian Jones and senior cornerback Lamarcus Joyner have also been recognized by the media on the preseason squad. The announcement marks the second year in a row that Joyner has been named Preseason All-ACC but it's his first time earning such an honor as a cornerback after he switched from safety this off-season.

Jernigan and Jones are on the Preseason All-ACC Football Team for the first time in their careers. Jernigan is the only non-senior among defensive players selected this year.

At running back, Wilder, Jr. was second to Miami's Duke Johnson in total votes with 23 while Jackson and Stork both generated the most votes of any player in the league at their positions with 46 and 29 votes, respectively.

FSU junior wide receiver Rashad Greene finished fourth in wide receiver voting with 10 and junior running back Devonta Freeman was fourth with eight votes. Sophomore defensive end Mario Edwards, Jr. was fourth at his position with 10 votes. The top two vote-getters at wide receiver, running back and defensive end earn spots on the team.

Junior tight end Nick O'Leary was second with 12 votes at his position but only one tight end makes the team.

Jernigan also finished second in defensive tackle voting with 34 and Jones was second at linebacker with 38 of his own. Joyner was given the second-most votes (32) among cornerbacks and also was given 11 votes as a safety.

FSU sophomore punter Cason Beatty finished fourth with three votes at his position.

Florida State players report for fall camp Aug. 5 and practices officially begin Aug. 6. The season opener -- a Labor Day showdown against ACC newcomer Pittsburgh -- is scheduled for Sept. 2 at 8 p.m.
