Miami vs. Florida. Who do you pick to win and why?

The University of Florida plays at Miami at 12:00 on Saturday. There are a couple of ACC brand and recruiting issues to consider.

The winner gets respect and bragging rights in the talent rich state of Florida. A win by Miami might signal that they are "back" to some sort of college football relevance at least in the minds of recruits. This may help their current class which is impressive already and future classes especially in South Florida.

If Miami wins,, this vaults them close to top ten team status (probably top 15). If they continue to win they may break into the top 10 by the time we play them. This means that FSU may play 3 top 10 teams this year. Florida plays LSU, Georgia, and South Carolina before they play us so there is plenty of time to regain their top 10 status. The win would also be the second marquee ACC win over the SEC this year which helps the entire ACC.

If Florida wins, the SEC brand gets another chit on its belt and Florida keeps its place in the top ten.

Florida State will have to play both teams. Given the relative weak schedule because of our non-conference opponents it is in our best interest to play both teams when they are in the top 10. Playing 3 teams in the top 10 makes Florida state on par with LSU, Texas A&M, Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. Winning all three of those games gives us a legitimate shot at being in the discussion for a possible bid to the National Championship game.

the majority of Florida State fans may be cheering for both teams to lose but if you wondering whom to root for in next week's game I'd say root for Miami to win a close one.
