Florida State 48, Boston College 34: Game notes

Mark L. Baer-USA TODAY Sports

These game notes are courtesy of Florida State.

  • FSU extended its win streak over ACC foes to nine with the victory today. The Seminoles are now 4-0 for the second straight season.
  • With his second-ever 300 yard passing game, Jameis Winston improved to 4-0 as a starter with 12 touchdown passes, two touchdown runs, two interceptions and no lost fumbles.
  • In the last 18 games FSU has gone over 400 yards of total offense 13 times. The Seminoles have gone over 500 yards eight times during that stretch.
  • Roberto Aguayo extended his streak of made kicks (either filed goals or PATs) to 33 with two field goals and six PATs. That streak is a school record for made kicks to start a career breaking the previous mark of 29 set by Derek Schmidt in 1984.
  • Three of the four longest completions of freshman Jameis Winston's career came in the game today. The Alabama native completed passes of 56, 55 and 41 yards. His career long coming into Saturday was 42 yards.
  • With a field goal and a TD reception BC hit 10 points scored in the second half before the third quarter was up. That was more than the nine points FSU's D allowed all season in the second half coming into today's game. The Eagles eventually scored 17 second half points nearly doubling what FSU had allowed all season coming into today.
  • Rashad Greene hauled in his second TD of the game to give him 17 career receiving TDs. After his second receiving TD of the day, Greene has 21 career TD's on 147 touches. Greene now has caught a TD in five straight games for the second time in his career.
  • With 17 career receiving TDs, Greene moved into 12th all-time at FSU in career receiving touchdowns tied with Hassan Jones, Snoop Minnis and Terry Anthony.
  • Kelvin Benjamin set a new career high for receiving yards in a game breaking his previous mark of 73 with the first 100 yard game of his career.
  • The move to running back seems to be working out OK for Seminole Karlos Williams. The junior has played tailback for three whole games and leads the team with four rushing TDs. Overall, after his third quarter TD he had 21 rushes and four TDs.
  • Nate Andrews and Jalen Ramsey both recorded second-half interceptions against Boston College. The ‘Noles now have at least one interception in each of their four games this season.

First Half Notes

  • With the touchdown on its opening drive, Florida State fell behind BC 7-0. It was the first time FSU trailed since the second quarter of the second game of the season versus Nevada. The TD ended a streak of 98:23 since FSU last trailed in a game.
  • The last time FSU trailed a game by 14 points or more was the final regular season game of 2012 when the Seminoles fell behind 37-20 to the Gators late in the fourth quarter.
  • Rashad Greene, who averages a TD every 7.5 touches, needed just one touch to score his 20th career touchdown hauling in a 56-yard pass from Jameis Winston on his first catch of the day. It was his 19th consecutive game with a catch.
  • Winston's 56-yard TD pass to Greene was the longest completion of the freshman's young career. His previous best was 42 yards.
  • The Seminoles first TD came on a two play drive that took just :44 off the clock. FSU's last TD drive of the half took just :50. It was the fifth and sixth TD drives of the season the Seminoles have put together of 2:00 or less. Three of those six TD drives ended with a Rashad Greene TD catch.
  • Chad Abram helped FSU pull even with the Eagles with the first touchdown of his career late in the second quarter.
  • Jameis Winston ended the first half in dramatic fashion with the second-longest pass of his career, a 55-yard TD with no time on the clock to put FSU up 24-17. The pass for the TD was Winston's seventh straight completion.
  • Today's captains were Dan Hicks, Bryan Stork and Lamarcus Joyner.
