While the "fog of war" is clearing, let's discuss some things I'm interested in talking about that happened last night. I'm currently watching the BCS Film room version of the game. BTW, if you haven't DVR'd this, you need to, it is awesome. I'm going to point out some things I was wondering last night, and things that confused me a bit.
A. Can anyone here provide a sound reason why we didn't run the ball more? We started off with a 20 yard run, then we went away from it for the most part early. When we began having trouble with their fronts, I'm wondering why we didn't pound. They were causing issues with pressures and bringing guys because they knew we were throwing. We are bigger up front and had success, but didn't stay consistent. Not sure I understand this, especially when Jameis was airmailing balls and WRs were dropping them or running poor routes...
2. FSU D held up at the LOS. 8 and 15 were flashing, I'm looking for others now as I'm re-watching. But I think the long game of managing the LOS was a W by the FSU D. Despite a big night for Mason, and a decent night passing, Auburn wasn't able to lean on us and wear it out. DAMN, that 3rd and 8 bubble TD to Mason was a bummer.
D. Special Teams were special for both teams. Aguayo, Kermit, and Auburn's punter were big time last night. I guess you could say Auburn's KO team let them down, and you'd be right, but what a game by Kermit...almost had another big one earlier.
National. Officiating = C-. Bad holding call missed where they literally pulled our guy down on top of the OL on a big play. An obvious and ealry PI call not called. The penalty against Joyner was iffy. The penalty against Freeman was BS, and not calling unsportsmanlike when Mason spikes the ball after his TD was crap if they're calling that taunting on Freeman. Lastly, the mised horsecollar and facemask on Greene's long catch and run was just horrible...AT LEAST the PI at the end was called, but god was that blatant, I'd hope it was called.
Champs. Loved how the guys stepped up after the fake punt. Great call, by Jimbo, that is by all accounts the turning point in the game. that's deep in your own area to fake a punt and that was a big time call. Field position had hurt us, D stood in there good enough, Offense found a way to get in to the swing of things and then Jameis was Jameis at the end to bring it home.
Noles. For as poor as we played early, seeing us nut up and make it happen is DEFINITELY the true sign of a champion, winning when you're not at your best is a great measure and that was ugly and beautiful to watch all at the same time. Let me know what you guys and gals think about the game or my thoughts.
