A lot of great stuff in there as always from Bill, by sure to check the link out. 2014 College football rankings: S&P+ projections
Most interesting to note is that Bama and FSU swapped the #1 and #2 positions from the preliminary projections for 2014 Bill posted in February. The new projections account for attrition, better estimates of returning talent, any tweaks to the projection system, etc. (The Feb projections had Bama at 295.5 vs FSU 268.7, whereas the new projections has FSU at 275.6 vs Bama 263.5) Also interesting is that there is over a 20 point gap separating Bama and #3 Oregon while only 1 point or less separates each team ranked between #4 through #17.
Where did FSU's main rivals rank? Clemson #5, UF #29, and UM #30. (Louisville ranked #16, which might mean that Thursday night road game in Papa John stadium might be closer than many people currently think.)
The takeaway? FSU and Bama are the only top tier teams in the projections, while there's not much separating the next 15 or so teams ranked in the projections. As a fan I obviously like the updated projections that have FSU as #1 but I really questioned the preliminary projections that had Bama (a team that didn't have a starting caliber QB on its roster at the time and is likely to start a true freshman at LT) over FSU (which returned its Heisman winning QB and most of the core that won the championship last season) by almost 30 points.
