The All-ACC Baseball teams were announced today and four Seminoles were selected as team members with one Seminole on each of the four teams: DJ Stewart was selected as a first team All- ACC player, Billy Strode as a second team All-ACC player, Quincy Nieporte was chosen to the third team All-ACC in his first year with the team and Dylan Busby was selected to the All-ACC Freshman team.
With his selection, Stewart has been an All-ACC player in all three of his seasons with the Seminoles as he was selected to the second team his freshman season and this is his second consecutive season as a first team member. This season, Stewart has had his most successful season to date with 13 home runs, more than he had in his first two years combined, 50 RBIs, and a nation-leading 62 walks.
Strode, who is receiving his first All-ACC honor in his senior season, has risen to the occasion in his first season in the closer role with a 2-0 record and 2.36 ERA through the regular season. He has showcased tough pitches that are difficult to make contact with as he has racked up 35 strikeouts in 26 2/3 innings of work this season.
After a season with the Tallahassee Community College Eagles, Nieporte took over the starting first baseman role just under a month into the season and has developed into a more than sufficient threat behind Stewart in the lineup with a very respectable 5 home runs, 39 RBIs, and a .301 batting average, good for second on the team behind Stewart.
Busby has quickly made himself an offensive threat for the Seminoles for years to come with 9 home runs and 44 RBIs, both good for second on the team, in his freshman season. Had he not cooled off considerably down the stretch of the season, Busby could very well have stood a chance of being selected to one of the other All-ACC teams as well.
Despite a disappointing ending to the Seminoles' regular season that saw them swept at home by Clemson, FSU will get another chance to beat the Tigers in their opening game of the ACC Tournament on Wednesday before games against Louisville and UNC.
