Good News ... Better News!
Charlie Graham OWNED it in community college this semester and should be welcomed back to the team with open arms come summer camp.
Now I don't know what Graham's deal was with the "academic scandal" so he might miss a couple of games anyway, but there's no doubt what Graham is coming back to do.
"I'm coming to get my spot," said Graham. "I'm not coming just to be on the team."
Meanwhile even better news, it appears that Preston Parker's charges will be reduced from a felony to a misdemeanor which means his punishment will be to miss the two preseason games and run a whole lot of as Bobby Bowden put it "do something for a couple of games."
In other words, look forward to having him back for Wake Forest.

Alrighty Then...
....Just so you guys know, I'll be learning 2.0 around the same time you do. Yes I've had plenty of opportunities to master the usage of 2.0 in the past six months but I like playing with fire more :).
Seriously, there's a little more clarification on the Marcus Ball situation and rather than get into the sticky details, let's just say he won't be missed.
Otherwise enjoy the realization that FSU can actually beat Clemson at some sport and let's figure this 2.0 look together.

Warchant Reports...
...that starting linebacker Marcus Ball has been kicked off of the team.
It's still uncomfirmed but Ball was going to miss the first three games as part of the academic situation from last semester.
Linebacker, however, is where FSU will have the most promise for the incoming freshman class.

Preston Parker Arrested..
...on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and marijuana possessions.
Something tells me this won't die an easy death.

I SEE YA....Out the door...
File This Under "Still in Denial"
FSU radio broadcasts will no longer utilize the services of Peter Tom Willis for football games with Gene Deckerhoff.
I've known P.T. for a number of years and while the coaching staff and occasionally the players cringed at his blunt honesty, the fans and listeners seemed to revere him because it was proof that were seeing what they thought they were seeing....bad football.
Among his "violations" was calling FSU a high-school offense during a 2005 game against Clemson. He was admonished and even admitted his emotions got the best of him but he rightfully said that FSU fans knew what happened and didn't need to be sugarcoated.
"I don't know how you say things are going good when they are not."
While Willis' comments did not set well with many within the FSU program, it made him popular among a significant number of FSU fans during that time. Willis, a buyer of commercial metal, continued to say what he believed following the replacement of offensive coordinator Jeff Bowden with Jimbo Fisher, whose offense last season put up numbers similar to the previous staff.
I can say personally that I loved what P.T. brought to the air. We've all been frustrated at the direction of FSU football over the last few years and he was a voice of the people.

Uh Oh...
...Well Drew Weatherford sat out Monday's practice with what was termed a "sprained right knee".
Doesn't seem serious right?
So it appears to be no big deal as Christian Ponder got all the work with the first team on Monday and D'Vontrey Richardson got all the work in with the second team.
While Weatherford was not expected to participate in today's full-padded scrimmage, there is word from Warchant.com that his injury might be slightly more serious than thought.
How serious? No one is saying, it's doubtful Weatherford will say anything himself and the program doesn't disclose injury information until the severity is discovered. Still I have a feeling that No. 11 might be sitting for the rest of the spring.

Mixed Reviews From First Scrimmage
FSU held a full pads "scrimmage" on Saturday and depending on who you ask it was less of a scrimmage and more of a live practice session. It was the first practice in pads for the Seminoles during the spring (which is scheduled for 15 practices).
Some of the names the continue to pop up during the spring are freshmen Brandon Paul, Bert Reed and Taiwan Easterling. Paul, especially, appears to bring something to the table at running back that is clearly different from Antone Smith and Preston Parker.
Meanwhile the scrimmage itself...Hard to tell what happened because there's some good (??).
Not so good.
Good?
Not Good?
Meanwhile, the attention goes to the quarterbacks and it depends on who you like. Weatherford completed 70% of his passes, mostly short stuff while Christian Ponder completed 4-of-9 for 116 yards and two touchdowns.
They received equal reps with the first and second team but Fisher liked enough of what he saw from D'Vontrey Richardson that he says he will get him more second-team reps in the scrimmage this week.

New Face, Different Place
With no offense to Roger Williams or Anthony Houllis, the free safety position should get a big boost in athleticism with the addition of Jamie Robinson there this season. Robinson is moving from the cornerback position and according to at least one of my friends with a connection to the program, he definitely brings a better look in coverage then what FSU has had in the last few years.
I think one of the biggest problems affecting FSU is leaving talented players like Robinson on the bench rather than finding ways to get them on the field. He's 6'2, 190 pounds with considerable speed and ability. Obviously Tony Carter and Patrick Robinson are your primary cornerbacks but with such a gaping hole at the free safety position why did it take the coaches so long to move Robinson there and provide more competition?

Makes The Head Hurt...
...Even Pro Day at FSU can't go off without a hitch.
There was a big controversy between FSU and some of the FAMU kids that either crashed the party or were invited (depending on who you ask). And it was a big mess. Of course the biggest mess came from a very angry Antonio Cromartie.
Of course part of Cromartie's issue was that one of the FAMU players that may or may not have been invited is a sorta kinda relative of his.
Oh boy. That comment stings and if he were the first to say it, I would suggest sour grapes.
But he isn't.

Some Spring Tidbits
If you want to read the official FSU sports info department spring practice update, you can do so right here.
* One of the more surprising developments for me was the fact that D'Vontrey Richardson is with the quarterbacks this spring despite constant rumors of him moving to safety or wide receiver or transferring elsewhere.
Now it's not surprising that Richardson is practicing football full time now because he doesn't have much of a choice. He's going through some academic issues that don't allow him to play baseball.
That being said the coaching staff is positioning Christian Ponder to win the starting job from Drew Weatherford. Whether he does or doesn't is another story, but they are positioning him to challenge.
However, Richardson has always intrigued the staff and you'll remember that it was him, not Xavier Lee, who was worked into the offense first last season against Alabama. It was a disaster of course, but it was a message of what they thought of Richardson.
So it's just something to keep your eye on as the pads come on and the scrimmages begin.
As for post-practice, Bowden didn't say much. Something about no comparison to last year's spring practice and how everyone's an All-American without the pads. It's not like he's the head coach or anything...
Meanwhile Jimbo Fisher said he saw guys out there who knew what they were doing and having fun. He didn't see as many mental mistakes.
He said he's going to try to balance Preston Parker between running back and wide receiver. He's current No. 1 on the WR depth chart and No. 2 at the running back position.
Jimbo liked what he saw out of Brandon Paul, a redshirt freshman who is lining up at running back.
He said that Christian Ponder needs to show the consistency and takes advantage of the opportunities he's given to show the coaching staff that he's the man. He says Christian's body language is that of someone who gets it and understands what's expected of him.
