FSU Basketball Recruiting
New Faces: FSU's 2011 Recruiting Class
The Seminole basketball team reached a new level of popularity during the regular season in 2010-11, finishing 3rd in the ACC and seeing one of the top-5 attendance jumps in the country. Then they capitalized on the momentum by reaching the Sweet 16 for only the 4th time in program history. Leonard Hamilton has mentioned on numerous occasions how having a star like Chris Singleton commit to the Noles makes it possible for other top recruits to come here. So now - due to the most successful season in nearly 20 years - is the time to capitalize on that, and if everything comes together then the 2012 class will be a program changer.
But what about the 2011 class? They've seen Singleton, Michael Snaer and Ian Miller all commit to the Seminoles. They just hadn't - prior to their commitment at least - seen FSU find success in the NCAA Tournament. So they committed with the understanding that they're coming in to push FSU to that next level. Do they have what it takes?
ESPNU 100 SG Terry Whisnant Commits To Florida State
Terry Whisnant, an ESPN100 shooting guard out of Cherryville, North Carolina, has committed to play for the Florida State Seminoles. Whisnant plays for Cherryville High School.
Evaluation from ESPN.com contributor Andre Whitehead:
Terry's an athletic wing with great quickness to the basket in transition. He's a good shooter with a soft stroke and a high release. Terry needs to be more aggressive with the ball, which would lead to more scoring opportunities for him. But he has great length, which makes him a solid defender.
Whisnant finished his Junior season at 6'3, 175 lbs. He is ranked 78 in the ESPN100, with a position ranking of 26. He is ranked 105 nationwide on Rivals (position ranking of 30). Prior to his commitment, he was heavily recruited by Wake Forest, North Carolina, Charlotte, Auburn, and South Carolina.

Looking Ahead: The 2009 ACC Basketball Recruiting Classes (Part 2)
In the first part of this series, we looked at the recent additions to the top seven teams in the ACC based on last year's conference records. Despite significant departures, it appears that UNC has reloaded their potent offense with a number of tall talented players. Duke added size. Boston College didn't add anyone.
In the second part of the series, we will look at the remaining teams in the ACC. Despite having difficulty during the regular season, these teams did exceedingly well recruiting some of the top prospects in the nation. It looks like the ACC is in for another year of outstanding basketball.
Looking Ahead: The 2009 ACC Basketball Recruiting Classes (Part 1)
Despite finishing second overall in the Pomeroy Ratings, I still believe that the ACC is the best basketball conference in the country. With a conference full of elite programs with storied histories, it is not surprising that the nation's top basketball recruits are attracted to the ACC, with the hope of launching to the NBA.
Previously, I wrote about the Florida State Seminoles' most recent additions. In this piece, I take a look at the recruiting classes of the top 7 teams in the ACC in the first of a two part series. In 2009, the ACC had 5 of the top 25 recruiting classes in the country, as ranked by Rivals.com.
