Christian Ponder Watch: Ponder Impresses in Start vs Panthers

Carolina missed a potential game-tying field goal attempt with less than a minute left to give the Vikings a win, but Christian Ponder is getting credit for driving the team down the field late in the fourth quarter to set up the game-winning FG. The Star-Tribune's Jim Souhan is saying that what's impressing Vikings coaches most is his poise and clutch passing. The Detroit Free Press says that Ponder looked better than Cam Newton on Sunday. Christian has clearly found a favorite target in Adrian Peterson, whose receiving yards for the season more than doubled on Sunday. Going forward, Ponder must look to improve the production of his TEs, particularly Visanthe Shiancoe, who is in the final year of his contract and has been criminally underutilized in the first half of the season.

Freshman Fridays: CB Nick Waisome

A new series I'll be doing, just a short profile on a different incoming freshman per week. I started off with early enrollee CB Nick Waisome.

The Renegade Report - Spring Practice Week 1 Recap

As we count down to the Spring Game on April 16th, Herc & Nolebra Kai are back to recap the 1st week of spring practice. In PART 1 of our discussion, we look at the few storylines that have developed. Starting receiver Willie Haulstead will miss a couple of weeks with slight shoulder separation. First team running back, Chris Thompson missed a couple of practices due to some lower back pain. Jermaine Thomas is back at practice, although it appears that he’s still in Jimbo’s doghouse. In addition, there’s been a shakeup on the offensive line. In PART 2 of our discussion, we discuss why we think the Noles should run some 4-2-5 defense this season. As we look at the Noles roster headed into the 2011 season, there is a lack of experienced depth at the linebacker position. However, there is much more quality depth in the secondary. Because of that, Herc & Nolebra Kai believe Coach Stoops should and will run more 4-2-5 defense this season. After you listen to the podcast, take a look at the TCU Defensive Playbook to get a better of idea of the coverages and responsibilities in this defense. As you know, TCU runs the 4-2-5 as their base defense and have been very successful at it for years.

8-Minute ESPN Radio Interview with Jimbo

Go halfway down the page. The middle column has a "Radio" box. Jimbo's interview is the second interview under Beano Cook's interview (about the Arkansas radio announcer that lost her job for wearing a UF hat). Jimbo talks Ponder, the loss of McCray and Fortson, JaMarcus Russell, the early Oklahoma game.

Strengths & Weaknesses

We’re continuing our Sunshine State Football Forum series. So far we’ve discussed the Best Case Record each of the teams could hope for this season and we’ve Ranked The Segments of each of the teams. In today’s installment Wil, BG1906 and Nolebra Kai discuss the strengths and weaknesses of their respective team.

Truenole's 2010 Position Outlook: Running Backs

One of the biggest storylines entering the season for me is the type of impact new running backs coach Eddie Gran will have on our backs. It's no secret that our backfield is crowded, but in our offense that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Chris Thompson heads into fall camp as the starter and fits the offense better than any other back on the roster. I'm curious to know what readers of tomahawknation think. The scenario could play out any number of ways. Will Thompson get the bulk of the carries in comparison to the rest of the backs? Or will Jermaine Thomas fight his way back to starter at some point during fall camp or the season? Perhaps we will see a 1A, 1B scenario? These backs present a variety of options and they aren't alone in competing for touches. One thing that's for sure, competition at any position causes the cream to rise to the top. FSU could have a special running game in 2010.

Truenole's 2010 Position Outlook: Offensive Line

Discussing the offense this week, which truly has an opportunity to be special for FSU in 2010. Florida State has been spoiled by the play of guard Rodney Hudson dating back to 2007. He enters his final season along with Ryan McMahon who could finish his career with more starts than anyone in FSU football history. What was the youngest offensive line in the country in 2008, could be the best in the country in 2010.

Truenole's 2010 Position Outlook: Defensive Backs

No doubt the 2010 secondary is a unit we will all keep a close eye on. Questions include how much the secondary will improve under Stoops and which individuals will flourish has been a hot topic of discussion. This is a talented group overall. Hopefully they can pull it together on the field.

Truenole's 2010 Position Outlook: Defensive Line

Its about the time people start to evaluate different units. Just a few short weeks away from the start of the season and here's my take on the FSU defensive line in 2010. I'll call myself cautiously optimistic but as we all know the odds of us being worse than last year are pretty slim. The question is, how much the Noles will improve up front. We are still at the very least, a year away from being dominant/elite at the point of attack, but in 2010 I expect that we'll at least be effective.

Seminole Rising: RB Chris Thompson

Week 4 of Seminole Rising profiles sophomore RB Chris Thompson. Thompson is a great kid and admittedly one of my favorite skill players on the team. I expect to see him used and asked to do a lot more in the offense this season.
