Updates on Position Battles

I spolighted a few position battles to watch during training camp. Here are some updates on them.

Fullback: Both Matt Dunham and Joe Surratt have spent time with the first team. I believe Surratt will start the game, but Dunham will be used in the sets when a fullback is going to be used as an offensive weapon.

Tight End: According to Warchant, Bobby Bowden says Caz Piurowski has the "inside track" but he's high on all three tight ends. Charlie Graham has been injured and Warren got a late start in camp.

Right Guard: As expected Cory Niblock will be the starter and David Overmyer will back up both Niblock and right tackle Shannon Boatman. Matt Hardrick never got into the competition due to a high ankle sprain.

Center: According to reports with the Democrat, Warchant.com and other outlets this battle hasn't been officially settled because both John Frady and Dumaka Atkins have performed well. Traditionally when this is the case the FSU coaches will go with the upperclassman.

Nose Guard: Injuries to Kendrick Stewart and Aaron Jones all but gave the spot to junior college transfer Paul Griffin. Griffin has also been the most consistent performer.

Right Defensive End: A position we didn't list because it was believed that Alex Boston was penciled in as the starter. However he's been injured and it appears that D.J. Norris will get the starting nod with Everette Brown backing him up.

Strong Safety: Myron Rolle was practicing full time with the first team until he got injured. He returned to practice today with the first team and Anthony Houllis missed today's practice with a knee injury. I believe Rolle has the inside track.

Kicker/Punter: Gary Cismecia and Graham Gano are the kicker and punter for better or worse.
