Hallback's Got Heart

Every program has that walk-on that perseveres and proves everyone wrong. Good for Robert Hallback.

There would be more challenges ahead for Hallback, and more disappointments, none more deflating than being left home when FSU traveled to play Notre Dame in 2003. Rather than mope around all weekend while FSU trounced the Fighting Irish, 37-0, in South Bend, Ind., Hallback watched the game on TV and charted every play in a journal he bought for that purpose.

When the team returned to practice Monday, Hallback walked into offensive coordinator Jeff Bowden's office and showed him the journal. That is one way to catch the coach's attention.

"From that day, he hasn't been left home since," said Robert Hallback II.
