Mixed Reviews From First Scrimmage

FSU held a full pads "scrimmage" on Saturday and depending on who you ask it was less of a scrimmage and more of a live practice session. It was the first practice in pads for the Seminoles during the spring (which is scheduled for 15 practices).

Some of the names the continue to pop up during the spring are freshmen Brandon Paul, Bert Reed and Taiwan Easterling. Paul, especially, appears to bring something to the table at running back that is clearly different from Antone Smith and Preston Parker.

Meanwhile the scrimmage itself...Hard to tell what happened because there's some good (??).

"Some plays the defense got the best of it, some plays the offense got the best of it. I thought it was a pretty even scrimmage," Bowden said. "Both of them I thought did OK."

Not so good.

"We dropped two balls and had two dropped pitches," said Fisher, whose offense struggled mightily at times last year inside the 20. "It happened the same way. It's what I said, 'Same old team.' A leopard doesn't change its spots. It may cover them up, but they come back out sometimes. So until they learn to change their spots, it's going to be the same issue."

Good?

"There's no doubt they know better what they're doing, especially over this time a year ago," said Bowden.

Not Good?

"We've got work to do to change who we are as a football team," Fisher said. "That's going to take time. It doesn't magically happen."

Meanwhile, the attention goes to the quarterbacks and it depends on who you like. Weatherford completed 70% of his passes, mostly short stuff while Christian Ponder completed 4-of-9 for 116 yards and two touchdowns.

They received equal reps with the first and second team but Fisher liked enough of what he saw from D'Vontrey Richardson that he says he will get him more second-team reps in the scrimmage this week.
