FSU Baseball Loses 3rd Straight Extra Inning Game

Florida State suffered another disappointing loss at the hands of the Virginia Cavaliers.  Tyler Everett, who hadn't pitched in 10 days started the 11th inning after a shaky 10th and gave up the game winning homerun on a 1-1 pitch.  There was lots of preseason hype about how deep the FSU bullpen was going to be but it is becoming increasingly obvious that Martin trusts only a select few.  Case in point, Mack Waugh and Daniel Bennett have combined to pitch 58% of relief innings this season, keep in mind there are 14 relievers on this roster.  We will have an upcoming piece on the mismanagement of the bullpen later in the week.  Despite the bullpen issues Florida State got another solid pitching performance out of starter Scott Sitz.  He went 7 innings giving up only 3 earned run while striking out 3 and walking none.  This was the second game in a row where FSU had a solid 7+ innings from a starter which is great to see after only having 3 all of last year.

The Florida State offense outhit Virginia but was only able to score 4 runs with 3 of them coming in the 4th inning.  For the second game in a row the offense had double digit strikeouts which made it extra difficult to start any type of rally.  Making matters worse was the absence of All-American Mike McGee who suffered a quad strain and was unable to play, his status is day to day.

For a play by play of yesterday's game you can read here. The UVA website does a great job of putting together video recaps of each game.  Here is Saturday's recap and here is Friday's (including McGee's homerun)

Today's game starts at 1PM and a live play by play thread will be here so come back and follow along.
