FSU Baseball Hosts Maine Black Bears: Live Game Thread

BREAKING NEWS:  Per Ira Schoffel, Mike Martin said post game that freshman Eric Arce is leaving the baseball team to focus on academics for the rest of the semester.  This is big, Arce was FSU's top baseball prospect this season and could have possibly played a big role, similar to Jayce Boyd last year.  Will find out more details as they become available.

After taking 2 of 3 games against the Georgia Bulldogs this past weekend Florida State returns home to host the Maine Black Bears for 2 weekday games.    Maine is coming off a 2010 season where they finished 31-22 overall and 17-7 in the America East Conference finishing with a RPI of 207.

Gary Merians gets the start for the Noles, he has pitched 11 innings this season allowing 7 hits while striking out 9 and walking 3.  The Black Bears will throw Jonathan Balentina who has pitched 9 innings allowing 17 hits, walking 12 and striking out 3.

This game shouldn't be close and FSU should dominate every part of the game.

Other Baseball News:

  • Florida State scores a three-peat, Sean Gilmartin is the third straight Nole to win ACC Player of the week thanks in part to his great outing against UGA.
  • If you missed it there was a terrible collision in this past weekend’s series between UGA players Jonathan Taylor and Zach Cone.  Taylor was taken off the field in an ambulance and later had neck surgery.  In his honor Zach Cone will be wearing Taylor’s #2 tonight during their midweek game against Mercer.

FINAL UPDATE:

Florida State killed a bad Maine team 10-2.  Mike Martin coached like Mike Martin does, read below to find out just how bad that is.  We still don't know a whole lot about this team given that their competition to date has been bad.  Looks like it will take a couple of weeks of ACC play to figure that out.
