ACC Baseball Tourney - Florida State and Georgia Tech: Live Game Thread 9AM

FINAL UPDATE: FSU WINS 4-2

The Noles didn’t make it look easy as their pitching was shaky all game but they managed to take advantage of many Georgia Tech mistakes.  Florida State won’t know if they play in the title game Sunday until the end of the next game between NCST and Clemson.

Go Noles and Go Tigers!

The ACC Tournament has not gone on accordingly due to inclement weather yesterday.  Rain postponed most of the games causing the ACC to reschedule.  Here is the official release:

DURHAM, N.C. – The Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Championship Committee has announced that the North Carolina-Wake Forest game will resume Saturday, May 28, 2011, approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the Clemson-NC State game. The game was interrupted by severe weather with one out in the top of the seventh with North Carolina leading 5-0.

The new game order for Saturday is as follows (30 minutes between games):
Florida State vs. Georgia Tech (9 a.m.)
Clemson vs. NC State
Conclusion of North Carolina vs. Wake Forest (UNC leading 5-0 7th inning)
Miami vs. Wake Forest
Virginia vs. North Carolina

The Noles do not control the own destiny with regards to advancing to the title game as they currently sit at 1-1 after a loss to North Carolina State on Wednesday and a win against Clemson on Thursday.  For a full preview and recap of the games you can read here.

Inside we will have the matchups.

Offensively Georgia Tech does everything as well as the Noles and while they have struggled to score runs in their first two games they can still put a hurting on poor pitching.  The Noles offense proved against Clemson that they are one of the best and that they can hit good pitching which is what they will have to do this morning.

PITCHING PROBABLES:

The Yellow Jackets played 15 innings on Thursday night which would have been advantageous to the Noles had they played yesterday but with the day’s rest the Tech bullpen should be rested.  Reaching the bullpen early might be a tough task for the Noles as the Yellow Jackets #3 starter just happens to be an All-Conference pitcher which gives GT the obvious advantage in this game.   Mike McGee is the starter for FSU and as you can see below its been a tough year for him in that role.

The sample size here is really small but it does paint a decent enough picture.  McGee really struggles the 2nd time through the order as he doesn’t have the stuff to overpower hitters, making it through 4 innings would be considered a good start.

As stated above the Seminoles do not control their own destiny, even if they win this morning they would need NCST to lose to Clemson in the game immediately following the Noles.  My win/loss predictions have been right so far and I don’t think FSU has the pitching to hang with GT so I will stand by prediction of a loss and no shot of repeating as ACC Champions.  Check in this morning and throughout the day for all updates.

Go Noles!
