As many already know Jimbo Fisher Camp kicks off this weekend in Tallahassee. The camp is a great setting for the Florida State staff to take a hands-on approach to see how these athletes react and fit in to what the coaches look for. We expect over 100 athletes to attend the June session of the Jimbo Fisher Camp, including some of the top players in the country, making this FSU's biggest recruiting event of the year. Some national recruits we expect to see include 2012 running back Barry Sanders Jr, wide receiver Stefon Diggs, wide receiver Chris Black, tight end Christo Kourtzidis, and cornerback Tracy Howard. There will also be some top 2013 kids working out in front of the coaches like quarterback Brice Ramsey, running back Derrick Henry, wide receiver Richard Benjamin, linebacker Trey Johnson, and cornerback Vernon Hargreaves. And there are usually some surprises who show and no-show.
We take a look into some of the main story lines heading into this weekends camp
1. Will the Florida State coaching staff offer a Quarterback that attends the camp as they have done in years past? This is a tough question to answer with one quarterback already committed in Sean Maguire and top quarterback target Jameis Winston looking to make a decision around July. Jimbo likes to see his quarterbacks to be able to break down defenses on the chalk board to gauge whether they can grasp his offense, as Jacob Coker did a year ago.
2. Will we see a prospect commit during the Jimbo Fisher Camp as we have seen in years past? There is a very good chance of this happening if certain prospects receive a FSU offer. Some names to watch out for are DE/LB Eric Kinsey, who the staff will be watching to see if he can play linebacker, wide receiver Marvin Bracy, who already has a Florida State offer, and tight end Christo Kourtzidis of California, who will be making his second trip to Tallahassee this year.
3. What prospects will we see leave camp with a Florida State offer? Will it be sleeper Quarterback Brandon Silver, who shows the arm strength and speed that could surprise Head Coach Jimbo Fisher? Highlights of Silver here, here and here. Maybe sleeper running back prospects Traveon Henry or Torry Clayton will surprise. With some of the top cornerback targets coming off the board, will FSU offer speedster Daniel Gray who has only been playing the sport one year? Or will see enough to offer rising prospect Lucas Thompson or sleeper athlete Andre Scott? Or will FSU not see the need to offer any of these this weekend?
4. Will Christo Kourtzidis commit this weekend, effectively ending the recruiting process at the tight end position? With seemingly little separating the top tight end targets, FSU may look to secure a commitment and not wait around for a slightly better prospect, while risking losing a talented player who wants to be a 'Nole. Just in the last two weeks Florida State offered two tight end prospects in New Jersey's Michael Giacone and talented athlete Guito Ervilus. There could be pressure on Kourtzidis to commit this weekend and the tight end position is something to keep an eye on going forward.
