Congrats on Dayshawn Watkins signing with Florida State today. Happy for this kid and his wonderful parents.

The 6-0 Watkins was a 3* recruit in last year's cycle (No. 178 overall at 247Sports) and signed with UAB during the early signing period. Since he was getting interest from bigger programs (Ole Miss, Arizona State, Wichita State) there was speculation that he should have waited until the late period in order to have better options.
But he didn't qualify, so it didn't matter.
Apparently, that has changed, as he's set to sign with FSU where he will enroll next year as a sophomore.
Watkins, from North Little Rock, AR, played on the powerhouse Arkansas Wings team which won the AAU national title following his junior year. Currently, he's playing point guard for Holmes CC, where he's averaged 14.5 points and 4.3 assists through four games.
Watkins joins fellow JUCO Cinmeon Bowers (who may end up as the No. 1 JUCO player in the nation), and 3* California combo guard Robbie Berwick. The Noles still have at least three spots open for the 2014 class, but with no scholarship juniors on the roster I expect them to hold at least 2 slots for a loaded 2015 class.
