Jimbo post practice 3/25 (via Dustin Tackett)
The 'Noles took to the intramural fields on Monday to kick off the second week of spring practice. There weren't many changes on a chilly, windy day in Tallahassee, but here are a few things I noticed.
There were a handful of recruits out there today - here are some I recognized:
*Jesse Burkett/OT
*Kain Daub/LB- Daub was out there and talking to most of the coaching staff. I noticed him watching the defense at one point, and Sal Sunseri came up to him trying to explain how important communication is on defense, especially as a linebacker. Said if he wants to be great, he has to be like a quarterback on that side of the ball. Daub seemed to appreciate the fact that Sunseri took the time. Daub is a consensus five-star recruit and is considered an FSU lean over Alabama. His mom told Bud Monday that the family will visit with him next week.
Non-participants were still hanging around:
*Demonte McAllister, Nick Waisome, and Tyler Hunter were all in attendance, but not dressed.
*Ronald Darby was out there in his jersey but not practicing. However, he was jogging around the practice fields and seemed to be moving around pretty well.
It's good to see them out there taking mental reps while they recover from injury.
*Also, figured is was worth nothing that Demarcus Walker was out there and dressed, but it didn't look like he was practicing yet. The dreaded NCAA Clearinghouse issue looms.
We got a peak into what might be the starters on kick return coverage: *Lamarcus Joyner, Willie Haulstead, Terrance Smith, Telvin Smith, Karlos Williams, Christian Jones, Reggie Northrup, Chad Abram, P.J. Williams, and Ukeme Eligwe.
The experiment on the offensive line continued today, as Bryan Stork was at right tackle with Austin Barron at center. This combination isn't unexpected. *Trickett seemed to be pleased with Stork today. Says he was moving his feet well and doing a great job with his hand placement.
I kept a close eye on the defensive line. It looked like there was a key group that was working out there today, but they but they were being mixed and matched depending on the call. This group included Mario Edwards Jr., Jacobbi McDaniel, Timmy Jernigan, Eddie Goldman, Chris Casher, and Gio Newberry.
*The interesting thing is that Eddie Goldman was set up on the edge in a three-down look (don't buy into this too much at this point, but I'll keep an eye the rest of the week).
*Timmy Jernigan seemed to be playing the 3-technique in most sets, but he would also occasionally play inside the guard at the 2-technique. I think he will be utilized in a number of ways this year - very versatile on the line.
Roberto Aguayo was still booting the ball and made field goals easily from the 45.
They don't practice tomorrow, but they'll be back on Wednesday. We also get the rest of the new assistants on Wednesday along with a few players.
